Wrangler hardtop on a CJ7 problem

I have a Wrangler hardtop on my CJ. I cut the lip off the the lower part of the lift door so it can open before the tailgate. Now the problem is what do I use for an opening/latch system for the lift door?. I have seen the cable and cam systems that are for the CJ hardtops but I was not sure the cable was the correct length and it does not look like they have any adjustment in them at all.

Do you have pics of your top? I'd really like to see how you modified your top to make it work.

I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for your question. I know that the liftgates on a CJ7 top and a YJ top are completely different. Size, shape, latch mechanisms the whole nine yards. And in all of the reading I've done, I've only heard of people that supposedly have figured out how to make this work, but I've never seen photographic proof. The best thing I can offer would be to take measurements. Measure out the size of your YJ top liftgate and compair them to that of a CJ7 top, if you need measurements let me know I'll go out to the garage and take them for you. You may be able to simply attach the hardware from the CJ7 top to the YJ top on the inside only and not worry about punching a hole through for the outside handle.

I don't have the hardware for the lift door because up until now you had to open the door after the tailgate was open. I cut the fiberglass of the lift door with a dremel tool but know I have to figure out how to get the lift door to latch closed. I would hate to buy the hardware then find out it did not fit/work.

Do you have wrangler doors too?? Are there any issues with using YJ doors on a cj? Just wondering cause I'm looking for new doors for my 7.

Yj doors fit fine. The major difference is that the side view mirrors are located on the door itself and not on the windshield hinge. The door panels are a little different as well but usable.
