I'm looking around for a frame to put under my 76 CJ7 . I found one that is in good shape that is a complete box frame so it's a 81 or newer right? My 76 has the open frame on the rear. My question is that the frame is missing the wide track axle shock mounts, how hard would it be to put narrow track shock mounts on the frame? Is it as simple as just welding them on?

1982 is when they switched to the widetracks that used the new shock towers. Yes you could weld these on since the factory holes won't be there to mount with bolts. Some guys use towers from Ford trucks, some use aftermarket ones. Should be able to find these in a search. Pretty sure TDK offers some and I think MORE does too.

No, 77 to 86 except for the frame horns.

Most people do the opposite and cut off the lower/welded on mounts and convert to the later towers. BUT IF your newer frame doesn't come with them, a search on forums like these should turn up a set. OR I can tell you Grand Wagoneers use the same towers if there are any in the local pull a part yards.

Either way, longer shocks can be used or your current shocks will be extended a little more.
