Hi all. I recently picked up a parking brake handle from an XJ to use in my CJ. I want to replace my pedal style one so that I can install a cage later and still have access to it.

Has anyone else done this? The cable that came with the handle looks long enough, but I was wondering if there were any lessons learned from others that would be of benefit to me before I start. I was planning on installing it on the left side of my seat between the seat and the door sill.

Thanks in advance.

I like it, but I would suggest installing it between the seats if you could. This way it is a lot easier to operate and can serve as a "Hill holder" when on the trail, especially when you have three pedals on the floor.

I was under a Scrambler today looking to see how I can make it work in the center. Just need to find the right cable and see how it can be routed. And yes, I have a clutch, so I understand how that can be a benefit.

Any suggestions?

I would say find where you want to mount the lever, the measure the distance back to the "Y", and order the right cable. Here is one source (36" to 120"): Cable, Push/Pull, Heavy Duty – JB Custom Fabrication I reference them because they do lots of cable shifters, etc.

I have a preference for a dash mount cage with a cowl reinforcement to the floor transferred through the body to the frame. knee clearance is at a minimum as it is and the tube running to the floor uses more than it deserves. this will let you keep the peddle and not bang your knee caps constantly.
