Going to install the OME YJ springs on my 8 next week, but I'm having trouble finding out which end goes where. Does the end with the big hole go on the shackle side or the frame side?

My guess would be that the big hole goes to the frame. That just a guess from putting cj springs on.

Im with Old Dog...guessing the same.

The military wrap end of the leaf spring should be installed to the fixed pin (side opposite shackle). The non-military wrap springs have a yellow mark on the end of the spring to be installed in the fixed pin.

X3,4 ? :D Definitely, YJ spring has a thicker side and it is on the frame side with a larger bolt.

Thanks guys, I knew you all would know:notworthy:

Interesting

Irritated and measured my YJ OME 2-1/2" springs and there was no difference.

Any chance for a picture?

Sure thing, I plan to start tomorrow and will take pics of the whole change out as well.

One end (OME) of the spring uses a 1 1/4" bushing - shackle end.

CJ's (stock) use 1" bushing at the shackle.

The other end (OME) uses a 1 1/2" bushing - frame hanger end.

OME springs should have no difference in width on the opposite ends, and front and rear springs are the same width unlike CJ springs,2" front, 2 1/2 rear.

Frame hangers however, are both (front and rear) 2 1/2" wide, The front hanger uses a bushing with a wider lip (CJ stock springs) with OME springs, the bushing lip is the same for both front and rear.

My 74 has yj springs the bigger end goes to the frame. I also have a soa lift with stock yj springs I would say I have about a 4 1/2 inch lift. With stock cj springs your looking at 6 inches of lift.

Well, I did get started yesterday but didn't get too far. First problem was not having batteries for my camera, then the counter lady at my Napa gave me the wrong info over the phone last week by saying they stock U bolts, they don't. Lucky for me there's a 4wd parts house about 20 min away, so I called and they will have them in today for me ($56 for fronts and rears). When I pu my U bolts I'll stop and get some batteries too. Other than those pesky snafu's I was able to get the old springs off, new springs on the rear without much trouble. Now to pull the winch and front bumper while I wait for those U bolts.

73CJ I should've said the diameter of one end is bigger than the other in my first post, sorry for any confusion :o yellow85cj gives a perfect description :notworthy:

I think you just wanted to say hole subconciously due to your screen name :D

I walked out to garage and looked under a YJ with YJ springs for my info. And it definitely is a bigger hole on one end.

CJ007, you might be on to something about me liking hole's:chug:

Yesterday ended up being a bust, U bolts didn't come in until mid afternoon and my lovely wife had some honey do's for me to do. At least I remembered to pu batteries for my camera so I'll take some pics of today's progress.

Wow, what a difference these springs make :D The install ended up being a bit more involved from the fabrication end of things than I figured (mostly the winch plate and front hanger holes not matching up) but well worth the effort! I'll take some pics in the morning and post em up, the during pics didnt come out well.

Finally, here's some pic's. She'll get her new shoes next week.

Thank you sir:chug: Looking forward to new tires:)

They are well worth the labor involved arent they.

Everything I'd read about the YJ conversion and OME where true and then some.Night and day ride difference, especially off road!

What size tires will go on with that system? Planing on doing it on my CJ7 .
