Hey all...what size size and TPI are the zerk fittings on my stock 84 CJ7 ?

This seems like such a simple question but I've been trying to find the info for like 45 minutes on the web (searched the forum too)...either way I can't find the info

I'm also curious if all the zerk fittings on my Jeep are the same size/thread (assuming stock) or will they be different size/thread in various places across the Jeep?

Thanks in advance for the edumacation on something that seems like it should be so easily available on the web.

Somewhere there has to be a set of standards for lube zerk fittings. Anyway, they do have a tapered thread with a 1/4" max outside diameter with 28 threads per inch. So I just use a 1/4-28 tap to clean out those holes when they get banged up and it seems to work out fine. A tap drill for that would be a #3 which is a .203 diameter. They are all the same size on a CJ also.

Here is the zerk tool, this 1 is a Snap-On 4-way.

I think this is a 1/8" pipe tap.

IO, a 1/8 pipe tap requires a .339 tap drill, a bit large for a standard zerk fitting.

OK you convinced me. :D

But it is an NPT is it not??

Make sure you DON'T have metric zerks-They're out there--

After looking for a taper tap for my zerk fitting repairs and being treated like I was stupid a mechanic finally told me that he just uses a standard 1/4-28. I've repaired several this way and haven't been had any troubles.

About the only time I use that tool is on the 45 and 90`s, and that is mainly on the 2A & Willys. Most of the time I use a 1/4"sq.dr. deep socket or nut driver, and some times on the angles I am forced to use a wrench due to space issues. On the 2A and old Willys also has 1/8" taper fittings.

Hey I'm a "bit" slow on response haha...thanks for the responses. I was asking cause I had a few zerks I needed to change and was about to buy one those tools you listed as well.
