13 degrees negative caster?????

13 degrees negative caster?????
I would question 3* with running 33" tires but I suppose you can shim it a little if that isn't the number you need. The welding can be done with a
decent sized MIG welder(175 amp) with several passes as shown on the video. Not everyone is a welder, maybe you are and can to the job.Hard to judge someone elses skill level on the interweb.:D mike

I set my SOA at +5 and would recommend the same.

Maybe your just low on oil?

Tonight I found a level spot in the shop and set my extra axle up on some stands and did some measuring, etc. I adjusted the spring perches parallel to the floor and dead level. Then I checked the caster angle and it was right at 1 degree positive. I assume that will change once the springs are mounted and the weight of the Jeep is back on the axle.

I'm going to mock it all up with the new springs and set everything in place. If the caster is still at 1, I will roll the axle until I get 5 positive and then tack the perches to the axle housing. I hope to only do this once so after I tack and bolt it up good I will drive to see how straight it goes.

Thanks to all!

Re: Update 13 degrees negative caster?????

Today I replaced the leaf springs and cut and re-positioned the spring perches. I set the perches level with the originals. After I bolted everything up I sat the jeep back down on the ground and checked the caster.

Much to surprise the left side was right at 4 degrees positive and the right was 3 degrees. I haven't driven it yet but I'm hopeful it will be much improved.

Went out today and finished up the spring and caster project. I bumped the axle around until I had 6 degrees positive caster. Then I torqued all the u-bolts and tacked the perches in place.

I drove it down the road and I can't even believe the difference in the way it drives no more wondering. The tires are junk and it still went straight.

Thanks to all for the info. and suggestions.
