The legendary John M. Browning, the greatest gunmaker of his time. Several years before 1911 he was undecided whether or not the Army would adopt this as their standard sidearm, and to the advice of his coworkers was talked into selling the manufacturing to Samuel Colt, who in turn several years later got the gun adopted by the Army and was labeled 1911 the year it went into full production. If asked now it would definately be a decision he regreted. He did get his water cooled machine gun passed through the Army trials around the same time. His machine gun design was the only entry into the trials that fired 20,000 rounds without a single misfire, something no one else could do..............
One more bit of Browning trivia......Do you know what other gun he designed before the 45 that is still considered to be one of the greatest guns of our time......He didnt manufacture it either......
