1911

1911
The legendary John M. Browning, the greatest gunmaker of his time. Several years before 1911 he was undecided whether or not the Army would adopt this as their standard sidearm, and to the advice of his coworkers was talked into selling the manufacturing to Samuel Colt, who in turn several years later got the gun adopted by the Army and was labeled 1911 the year it went into full production. If asked now it would definately be a decision he regreted. He did get his water cooled machine gun passed through the Army trials around the same time. His machine gun design was the only entry into the trials that fired 20,000 rounds without a single misfire, something no one else could do..............

One more bit of Browning trivia......Do you know what other gun he designed before the 45 that is still considered to be one of the greatest guns of our time......He didnt manufacture it either......

I guess it depends on who you ask as to what would be THE best, so I don't really know any specific model. But until (I think) about the late 1800's or VERY early 1900's, if it had the Winchester name on it, he designed it. Not to mention his offerings to Colt....(maybe the woodsman?) and FN. Hell, I even had my hands on the famous .50 cal machine gun he designed, and as far as I know, the milatary STILL uses. The man is a firearms God.

The 1894 lever action.....his design. Between the 1911, the 1894 lever action, and his over-under shotgun design patented in 1902, those are three of the best guns ever made in history.....you are right, he is a god, a man way ahead of his time
