I have a 1966 CJ5 that I am rebuilding. It is in rough shape but runs, body is pretty much gone, 2.2L hurricane, t90c Transmission Dana 20 Transfer Case . I am picking up a 72 CJ5 and am wondering what parts I may swap back n fourth between them. the 72 has a good fiberglass body and good frame.

any tips and hints to my build would be greatly appreciated.

What is your planned use for your 66 when completed?
The 66 and 72 have 2 different length wheel base (66 81") (72 83.5).

Your building the 66 so the 72 frame, tub, front clip, wont be a direct swap. If the 72 has a inline 6 that won't fit as well. You can "make" the tub fit by working the body frame mounts.

You can use the 72 windshield frame, and axles although you would have to regear the axle to help out the F-134 engine. The 72 comes with standard 3.73 gears and the 66 4 cyl comes with standard 5.38 from the factory. If you swap the 72 axles you would also have to swap the centered Transfer Case as well. The 66 has an offset rear axle mated to an offset Transfer Case .

You say the 66 is running so I'm assuming the Transmission and Transfer Case is running fine as well. Also, if the 66 Transfer Case is stock it would be a Dana 18 not 20.

Hope this helps
