body matches title # on the block it reads 2 08 E 21 so that dont fig out right for my research??? i need help with that.
when i buy parts i have to buy 1974 AMC 232 i6 parts ???? is the motor swaped iv been told they put motors form earlier yrs in sometime like that(being 74/75) the jeep is basic as it gets it does have the 3 speed and a good stroy behind it to tell me it seems to be original??? an 35000 miles lol who knows???? any way the frame and body is awesome it has a orv only title not for highway use, this what it says right on the title so that makes me think it might just have 35000 on the motor if its all off road use??? i got the motor running good oils starting to come from the seals i was thinking of a rebuild but was worried the motor was not enough power to turn 33s any help out there guys should i fix it as is or start $$$$$ i read to romp i dont want this thing in the barn lol

ok thats good to know. what gearing and diff should i go with how about 35 i was thing about it??? but dont wana over due it at first.
i shoulod be able to do mostly the same with the 33 and then go big or stay lil lol then up to 37 & full width's  some day maybe for now i wana do some wheeling

AMC 232 i6 and AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l are basically the same eng except a few minor differences

the AMC 232 i6 /AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l will spin 33s
its not eng size its the gearing in the diffs you need to worry about

I am a new at this so bare with me. LOL You say the 2 motors are the same basically. So just a question to you is can you bolt the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l up to the 3 speed that the AMC 232 i6 was bolted too? And this AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l come out of a AMC eagle that is about a 77 or 78 and had a automatic in it. Does a person have to have any adapters to make them bolt up? Any information would be apprecated. Thanks...:)

Yes, the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ans the AMC 232 i6 are the same engine block. They both have a bore of 3.75 inches. The difference is the stoke. The stroke in the AMC 232 i6 is 3.5 inches and it's 3.9 in the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Most car makers do this to come up with the different engine sizes. Or they change the bore.
Likewise the AMC 304 , 360 and 401 all have the same engine block.
So to answer your question; yes you can bolt a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l up to a 3 speed that the AMC 232 i6 was bolted to.

Thanks for the reply on this. The information will be handy to have...
