Oops, I'm not at all familiar with the QuadraTrac jeeps. This might be easier than I thought.

Gotcha. Well these are never as easy as they are in print. But he'll have a nice setup for sure.

X2 on the QuadraTrac rebuild or chain AND fresh special QuadraTrac fluid.

All the QuadraTrac Jeeps did come with GM Turbo 400 's with an AMC bellhousing. To use a run-of-the-mill GM Turbo 400 , you'll need to change the tail section to mount to the QuadraTrac , which Novak can assist you with.

Not true. The first Jeeps to have a GM Turbo 400 were the full size Jeeps. They started out with a true GM Turbo 400 with an adapter plate to bolt it to the AMC engine, and the adapter used to bolt to the QT TC. After a couple of years of out sourcing those, AMC had there own version of the GM Turbo 400 built. They still kept the adapter to bolt to the QT TC. Okay if we are being that particular then I should have said that all CJ's with a QuadraTrac had a GM Turbo 400 .

The reason I mention this, is my CJ7 has this setup. It also didn't come with the low range unit which was an option for the trucks but standard in the CJ's. I clarify not to insult or be a smarty pants, just that there may be others out there that read this but have the same setup that I got.

When I got my CJ I would have sworn it was all original. The dirt, grease, grime, mud, and everything else to include all of the popular oil leaks suggested to me it was. I soon found out by doing some research that was not the case. It now appears that the whole drivetrain was replaced using components from a FSJ.

By the way, this is actually a benefit to me. If I was looking to keep it truly stock or a parts matching Jeep I'd be :censored:. For me though, the GM BOP GM Turbo 400 will give me a wide range of engines to put into my custom CJ truck. A while back, I bought an extra Transmission and Transfer Case from a local guy looking to get rid of them. It is the AMC case with the QT. My plans are to rebuild it (QT already done), swap it into the current drive train, and then set about to rebuilding the GM GM Turbo 400 and possible some type of V8 or turbocharged V6 for more towing power, etc. with my truck.

With this adapter plate any GM Turbo 400 will hookup to the QT if you have the OEM adapter that connects to the QT and you change out the rear out put shaft. Of course there are a lot of other adapters that would allow the GM Turbo 400 to be mated to several different transfer cases. The TH350 is shorter than the GM Turbo 400 , can be mated easily to a Dana 20 or Dana 300 allowing it to be placed in a CJ5 with a CVJ on the drive shafts.
Hope that makes sense. Sorry if my tone offended you, it was not my intention. :chug:

I considered putting a Dana 20 in place of my QuadraTrac (to keep my offset axles), but now that the chains are available again, I'm good with what I have and I love the QuadraTrac . I've also considered getting a BPO adapter and putting in my Goodwrench 5.7 Diesel (Olds bolt pattern), but that's a whole other thread.

As to the OP, he'll have a nice setup when he's done with the right axle gearing.

D/20 t'case uses the centered rear axle. The offset axle was only used for the Q'trac.

You're right. I was thinking the 18.
