Hello, I am new to this forum. I am A Corvette Driver and I was purchasing a Corvette from someone and I noticed that he had a jeep covered in the corner of his garage, it 's a Texas car and has been stored in his garage since 1990 under cover, starts it about once a year and takes it for a spin and the engine purrs like a sewing machine. It has 62,000 miles on it ,has never seen rain or been off road and still smells like new inside. The frame still has the original black paint on it ,there is absolutely no rust on the car at all.
What do you guys think this is worth? I would like to make him an offer, I never saw anything this old in such good original unmolested condition. 25 years ago he had it painted because he did not like the look of the Larado stripes. Any help would be appreciated, by the way its the original owner.

High asking price is around $9k average is around $6k.
With it being rust free and original except the paint,
he could probably pull $6k+ even with the market being craptastic.
Let him tell you what he's looking for. Offering to low will be an insult
and to much would be stupid. But I'd start at $4k if I had to name a price.
He might just take it.

I may be wrong, but I don't remember ever seeing a 80'+ CJ7 with side marker lights on the rear of the body. I remember 80'+ having the rear sidemarkers in the tail light housing. My 81' CJ5 & my 83' CJ8 both were setup that way.

Not sure about the 80 but I know my 83 had the side markers in the tail lights.
The repaint would lower the value quite a bit to any collector. If you just want a clean CJ It's a good find. Maybe 4 or 5k would be a good price.

If you don't make an offer, I will... CT isn't too far away and it looks very clean for New England.

As for the lights, you are correct, only in the late 70's and up to 81 I think had them on the sides.

Also in 81 no vent windows, 82 had them.
Also in 80 would be the older style doors.

So, bottom line, this is not a 1980 as advertised, it more then likely is a combination of things. Maybe doors are off a later model and converted over, who knows.

I would get the VIN and we could decode it for you.

Thanks for the info guys, I know its a 1980 CJ7 Larado and its so clean because it was in Texas for the 10 years that he drove it and in the garage for 18 in CT. He bought it in 1980 and stored it in 1990 ,sorry if It looked like I ment it was a 1990. He never advertised it ,I happen to see it in his garage and lifted the cover up and asked him if he wanted to sell it, I think it would have sat there for another 10 yeaqrs if I had not noticed it, he is also the original owner and I also went to school with him so he has no reason to try and pull a fast one., he told me that it used to have a Moon roof hard top but he never used to bolt it down because he never went over 40 around town with it. One day he got onto the highway doing 60 and the top flew off, he purchased a top from a 1984 plus the doors because he liked the new style handles versus the lever ones on the 1980 , so thats the story on the doors and the top. I offered him $3,000 for it and he's having triple AAA tow it to my garage next week, so I guess I have a jeep now, don't know what I will do with it because like I stated before I'm into Corvettes ,its just that this looked like such a find that I could not pass it up.

Sounds like you got a great deal. I don't know where you're at in CT, but I'd be willing to come take a look at it for you, give it a good once over...

Sweet!:chug: Now you have two money pits.

I am usually down in CT every other week for work, so if you need some help going over it, I am usually around. I spent 20+ years of my life in CT and just recently moved up to NH, so there is a ton of help out there for you if you want.

3K is a steal as long as the frame and underside is clean, but if is from TX and stored in a relatively dry place, you should be all set.

Thanks for all of the offer guys, I cleared out an area in my garage and I guess I'll let it sit there for a while, but its so clean ( no rust at all ) body or frame I hate to part with it, , I my decide to get into 4 wheeling too.
Thanks for all of the help.
