Vehicle(s)
1986 cj7 in the works,
1996 F350 crew cab with a 5.9 cummins
so i found me a 1986 CJ7 that has the Dana 44 axle. How rare are these to come across?

That CJ originally came with a model 20. Some one swapped it in, it's a pretty easy swap but not done every day... Of course on a 25 year old vehicle, I.m sure that it has been done many times.

I've read that very late cj7s came with Dana 44 rears because they ran out of amc 20s

Jeep Axle: Dana 44

Hmm... I had forgotten about that, I new I had read it some where but I have never seen one.

Cold air, does it look like a swap or a factory install?

I don't believe the 86 with a rear 44 to be rare. I've owned 2 86's and both had the factory 44.

Midway through the '86 production, AMC ran out of corp 20's so they used Dana 44 's in the last half of the production.
...It's about 50/50 finding an '86 CJ7 with either axle. Not really that rare except for the fact it was the only year in the '80's that saw a Dana 44 .

Not rare, but people will sometimes pay a little more for one just to get the 44.

Ya it factory install looking this jeep is from the original owner. only prob is it has a cracked block with 15k on a rebuild, getting it a a pretty good deal i think.
