1st Time Jeeper Opinions

1st Time Jeeper Opinions
Id go through the Craigslist ads you like now and test drive them. :D

You know, I've been tempted to do exactly that.

I really want to take the next step.
I really shouldn't be buying anything until January and I really wont have room for a Jeep until I sell some motorcycles in the Spring.
I won't keep my Jeep outside in the weather.

I think it would be more than a little inconsiderate to make appointments and take test drives when I know I'm not ready to buy.

The V6 is a much loved and respected engine. You can go to the Novak site and read up on the history of the V6, it's an interesting read without being overly long. There were othr engines offered, but damn few of them made it to the street.

I'd get it just for the name, "Dauntless Buick 225 V6 ". The name itself brings to mind the WWII battle of Midway where the Dougless SBD Dauntless Buick 225 V6 Dive Bomber ripped the heart out of the Japanese Navy winning the day and quite possibly the war in the Pacific.

I'm developing a real appreciation for the information and opinions in your posts.

I've been reading the "Novak Conversions" website and learning some surprising stuff. I never imagined that almost all of the V6 and V8 engines that are swapped into Jeeps weigh quite a bit less than the Hurricane 4 cylinder. I'm shocked.

I understand that Novak wants to sell their engine swap products but they do present some pretty convincing support for the idea that the Jeep drivetrains are adequate for the bigger engines.

You guys are causing me to rethink a lot of things.

I must be a genius for asking your advice. :)

I used to work with a guy who was a gunner in an SBD-5 Dauntless Buick 225 V6

If you ever see him again shake his hand for me, god bless him and all those that went to war in obsolete equipment.

The Dauntless Buick 225 V6 was obsolete before WWII even started, but like the P-40 they made a name for themselves by being some of the toughest steel in the sky. I once read an account of a Dauntless Buick 225 V6 driver caught in a dog fight with some of the Japanese best. He did well too. But the true test was when he was head on with a Japanese Zero, he shot until he was out of ammunition, the Zero was out as well, he turned his plane sideways and cut the Zero's wing off with his wing. Then flew that tough SOB back to the carrier.

It's been more than thirty years since I saw him, and he had a bad pump back then. He's almost certainly dead by now.

I always liked the way the Kittyhawk looks though.

That looks like a nice unmolested jeep.I have been following this thread and that seems to be what your looking for.Not a cream puff but has all the original parts (seats, not all drilled full of hole, etc.)It will look a lot different with a pair of good fenders.BTW the after market fenders are garbage. You may want to work on them on the price. Mike S.

I paid less for my CJ6 of the same year and it was a CA rig so very clean rust wise. I say a bit high but you would have to really look and not take their word on rust free.

Front end damage bothers me a bit. Looks like maybe it hit something, make sure there is no damage to the frame or suspension / steering

 I've been thinkin' about all this. The man got us talking about buying a Jeep. Then he narrowed it down to 1960's Jeeps. He can't buy until early next year (2014), but he keeps bringing in pictures and talkin' about Jeeps....... Hmmmm I think I know that's going on, he cornered the market in 1960's Jeeps and he's actually advertising them to us, but we don't know it ..... looky here what do you think of this Jeep ........ whow look at this on I found, would you like to buy it. Ya see, he's sneaky and he's actually got a whole warehouse full of old Jeeps..... :chug:

(Disclaimer, this has been a joke and only a joke brought to you by me, Hedgehog)

Well, I am sneaky, you caught me there, but I'm still excited about getting my first jeep, so the rest of that is still only an idea. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
:)

This is the joke right?

:chug:

THAT was funny.:D

I understand what beating a head against a wall is, but I'm not sure what your trying to say.

Please elaborate.

Can someone else tell me what the message here is supposed to be?

Have I posted something that's upsetting to someone?

:dunno:

We never get upset here. Just confused on what you are trying to get at. Is this better:confused::confused::confused::confused: . If you find a good deal there is no time better to buy it. I am not a big fan of people who look at something with no interest of buying it.

Easy guys I was just havin' a little fun. I think he's getting his feet wet and getting opinions on what various Jeeps in various conditions are worth so when he is ready to pull the trigger he knows what to look for and about what it's worth. He's been straight forward with his intentions. Sure he's educating himself from our efforts, but that is exactly what these boards are for.

Does this 1966 seem a little too high priced at $4,500?

To me this one looks like a shop that fixes and turns Cjs over bought this with that intention. Then they realized they wouldnt make the profit they wanted on it cause it needed to much so their selling it "unfinished". A bit to high on this one.

Test driving without the intent to buy, nothing wrong with it because you do have every intent to purchase. When the right one comes along, whenever that might be. If that is a shop that turns jeeps over, well I'm sure you wont offend them by not buying what you test drive. Further more you will alert the owner(s) you are in the market if one comes available for the right price and is the right condition. My trainer while I was in the NJATC, stopped by the Ford dealership for 8 months, results= he got the car he wanted for.the price he wanted! I would be repsectful to the "private" sellers but most will still allow you to drive and touch their jeeps.:D
