258 loosing prime after sitting for a few days.

Mine was doing this when my fuel pump went bad. Fuel lines were draining back all the way to the tank.

I would think that even then the carb bowl should still be full

Yeah, it was fine if it only sat for a couple days, but after that it took forever to get it started.

i have the exact same problem..brand new fuel pump to.. i havnt had a chance to look at the carb but im guessing the first thing to check would be if the carb still has fuel in it or is it draining somewhere..definately not evaporating that fast..is there an easy way to see if the carb still has fuel?

Could be leaking around the accelerator pump, when it hits a warm intake manifold it evaporates. Gas can also evaporate thru vent tubes also.
