258 not priming

I replaced all our fuel hose after one burst and sent fuel all over the engine. After doing so, the pump no longer primes the engine before starting, making it hard to start. Before changing everything out, I'd turn the key and hear the pump priming for a few seconds, but that no longer happens.

Any idea what is going on? How does the priming mechanism work?

That's what I thought, I couldn't figure out how the priming would work with a mechanical pump.

What I don't understand is the noise I heard when I turned the key (before starting) before? It was a low pitched hum or buzz, almost like I would expect a pump to make. It would run for a few seconds, then stop. Any idea what that would be then?

lol that sounds like an electric pump. Have you looked down your passenger side frame rail for an electric pump? If you have one and its working correctly you shouldn't have the problems you describe though
