258 PS bracket

Today we are replacing a bent Alt bracket and the belts for the alt. and PS. I can't for the life of me see how the PS belt is supposed to be adjusted. Is this the standard PS pump bracket for a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ? The reason I think it is not is because I can feel where it may have been modified with a cutting torch.

Why am I not surprised? Now that we are really looking at it is not lined up with the crank and water pump pulleys. Looks like another backyard engineering attempt by one of the POs.

OK we are on the hunt for a set of PS brackets. Thanks YellowCJ5.

Is there anything that will keep me from using the PS brackets shown on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ? The engine block and bosses are the same right?

In the meantime I need to take the contraption I have apart, shim the pump so the pulleys line up and replace the belt.

Is your pump to far back? To me it looks like the front most bracket is on wrong. I just bolted mine back together today and the triangular shaped bracket went I front of the water pump brackets. You may have all the right parts but they are on wrong. Oh and if it helps out with the parts hunt my 89 yj AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l brackets are the same as you cj's so you can expand your part search a few more years.

You may be right Jimbo. I'll have to get it off to tell for sure. It might be that I am just missing 3 of the 4 parts. I can tell you the main bracket was modified to clear the block with a cutting torch. That is what leads me to believe it was a backyard engineering job. Typical on this jeep.
