Are 33" tires alright on Dana 30 and AMC20 axles?

I don't wan't to use them if them if there going break every time I look at them.

Maybe 31"s would be a safer choice?

put one piece axles in the rear and it will hold up fine. FWIW, I run 35" Swampers on my stock Dana 30 front, and have only broke 1 U-joint in 4 years of street driving and mud racing.

100,000 miles on my Jeep with 33 inch tires. Stock Dana 30 and model 20 with moser 1 piece axles. Oh and a stomping hard 350 v8 pushing those bad boys. Still fine.

I agree with MyLittleCJ5
Stock axles will work with 35 inch tires (that's what I have) but you need to replace the rear axles with one piece axles.

Alright, thanks

If I decide to use 33"s maybe i'll try it with the axles completly stock.
If/when I have trouble with it, I'll switch to the solid axle.

My 20 & 30 is still alive with 33's and a 350 sbc.
Plan on 1 piece axles though as the stock 2 piece axles WILL FAIL.

One piece axles are manditory on these units. Don't waite just get them.

I agree.
The two piece axle is THE worst designed part on any CJ

:eek:What level of abuse does it take to cause the two piece axles to go ?
Can I get by on the trails with little or no rock crawling and the afore mentioned 33's ?
Has anyone gotton by without the change over to a one piece ???
THANKS...

It doesn't take much to spin one, mine broke on the road. :(

I also spun one on the street- in my opinion the peace of mind is worth the cost and it is not difficult to do if you take your time. Limping home on the front axle sucks.

Bush

33s should be fine ive seen guys run them but if you're gonna hit the rocks i would change them but 33s should be good on stocks

V8???
Big Tires???
You guys running the original 2 piece axles??

IMHO these guys either already have 1 piece axles and don't know it,
Or they they will be spinning a hub anyday now.
