- 1986 cj7 258, t-176 4-speed, d-300, moser one piece axle in back in amc 20,G2 4.10 gears front and back, detroit truetac front and back,G2 4340 chromoly front axles in a d-30, 4" rough country lift, 33" tires
x2 If you don't mind alot of rubbing of the wheels on the fender wells you should go with at least a 2.5" lift but a 4" would be best. My 86cj7 had 33" tires and no lift when I bought it and it rubbed even on the highway any little bump would cause rubbing. But what are you asking anyway?

With the higher clearance fenders front and rear you should be ok may need a little more bumpstop
But will take some testing and fine tuning to get right
The out come though is better IMHO low centre of gravity is best.
Also consider clocking Transfer Case and flat skid plates to help complete the package

but I need input for what is wanted
I mean I could squeeze those tires if I grew huge bumpstops and got a really shallow back spacing on the rims, but rims cost more than lift so what is the point?

ok, now does he want info on how to get those tires not to bump?
what kind of offset he needs in the rims so they do not rub?

and then say he thought of buying some aftermarket stuff

Well i think you'll definetely need to run some tall bump stops up front but not sure that would make for a pleasant ride at times. i run 2.5" of lift with 33x13.50 tires and flat tube fenders on the front and come an inch or so from rubbing at full compression(see my pic under name on left).I'm also not running a sway bar so that lets my suspension travel more. As for the rear i still had to cut the wheel opening to prevent rubbing and run tj flares to cover it. The website for the rear corner guard does say about trimming the rear opening to accommodate. Quote from the website "Just enough tire clearance, allowing for 33s on a stock CJ7 or 35's on a 2" BL! But that doesn't mention whether enough for offroading. Like the others said it may take some testing and tuning there.
