3rd Annual Colorado Jeep-CJ Trail Report

3rd Annual Colorado Jeep-CJ Trail Report
Do what you have to do Dog. A couple of sheets of rock and a gallon of paint ?:D

Old Dog - I'm sorry to hear about your frozen/burst plumbing...:( We have had some bitter cold, ice and snow here in Wisconsin but so far no fenders benders or problems like you had. I did get a new show shovel... When I ran the water line to the barn, I put it six feet down - and it has never frozen yet....1 in CU in 1986..

I really, really want to do this ride...so my husband has agreed since it is the last year for it we should go. Our best prospect for the ride is the '67 CJ5 - the engine (V6 225 Dauntless Buick 225 V6 ) runs, carb has been rebuilt, we are working on all new brakes, line, pads, etc. and will have to custom fab an exhaust system just for starters, so we have lots to do. It needs a paint job and that will be last so I doubt it will be pretty - we are just going for functional to make the ride. It will be mostly stock - so no lockers. A roll bar would be nice - that year CJ didn't come with them stock....yah we have a lot of work...

Anyway - we are working on making the ride - just to let everyone know.:)

We'll my crazy a55 has priced and booked a hauler to get mine to Colorado Springs, then me and a buddy will fly in go to it and head to Ouray. Can't wait!

Still hoping to make the ride, I love the mountains.

Sounds like the Midwest (Flat landers) are going to invade the mountains.:driving:

I sure hope so. I'd love to meet up with you guys. I wasn't planning on starting the thread announcing the trail ride until spring but I don't know if I should wait much longer. There is already a lot of talk. I just want to get some of the plans decided so I am not changing things mid-stream. One thing is sure, it will take place the last week of August. I'll start the thread before too long.

My 2cts - start the thread. ;-) I think the quicker people know the quicker they can plan ahead and maybe...just maybe...make it. What a wonderful place that area is. Been going there since mid 70's.

Well OO7 tells me there are a couple places to rent jeeps in Ouray. I don't know what "kind" of jeeps are for rent and what the qualifications are. My husband has a cdl with just about every endorsement - millions and millions of miles and a perfect record - mine isn't perfect - but close...;)
If we cannot get our CJ ready for this trip - we will just rent one...I don't want to miss this adventure again!

I'm all ready to start planning!!!:D

As usual Dave, if I am in the neighborhood, I will look you up, but I am still trying to find someplace a bit closer to sea level/home.:D

They are all late model Wranglers, Rubicons are a bit more. They're all clean and we'll cared for. All you will need is rental a $500 deposit I think and proof of insurance. Call them for specifics on the insurance.

Good clip, thanks for sharing.

I suspect you will appreciate the ladies reactions a lot better after driving this trail. At the right hand turn at the base of the steps the vinyl on the seats had been sucked into places it was not originally intended and I was wondering who it was that called this a "road". The problem with video like this is you can't really appreciate the angle of decent. This was where the decision to upgrade to power brakes and power steering was made.:D

I guess one of the reasons I liked this so much, is that one of my wheel'n buddy's wife acts the same way. She always great entertainment. :D
At the same time I wouldn't doubt if my wife doesn't come pretty close to that when we go. By the way I haven't let her watch that one yet.;)

I was laughing but after a bit thought about the diff between being the driver and the pass. The driver knows where and how they are going. The pass is a rider holding on for dear life!

Holy :dung:!!!! I'm the pass with Ryan in Aug! HELP ME!
