3rd Annual Colorado Jeep-CJ Trail Report

3rd Annual Colorado Jeep-CJ Trail Report
Each year I get low turnout even though there is always lots of interest in the beginning. I think a lot of people are thinking they''ll wait till next year. I am hoping to get a good turnout this one last year.
Get you jeeps ready. It'll be a good time.
Next year Ouray will be the base. It will be the last week of August. I will start a new thread announcing the details before spring.
:grinjeep:

We'll I can understand that but I hate to see it disappear. I mean Ouray is the Jeep capital of the world and I cannot imagine anyone with a CJ not being just completely in awe of the San Juan. That said, I go there every or every other year and my Jeep hasn't been there due to work making it trailable. Perhaps if more would show and rent Jeep it might be just as good a time. Well as for me I'll just have to see how the year goes.

If this will be the last ill have to rent a jeep or bring my truck (ford) if anyone can handle it :) will hate to see it go

I'm working out having my CJ shipped to Colorado Springs or Grand Junction, then flying out there for the weekend and then shipping it back. NOT going 2600 miles round trip with a bikini top. Sounds crazy (and perhaps it is), but there are deals to be found if your flexible on shipping dates...

Sounds great but take some time off. There won't be any trail rides on the weekend. Trail rides will be Aug. 25 to Aug. 29. Weekends will be for traveling.

How big is your Ford truck? A full sized pickup should be able to handle most trails. Black Bear will be tight. :D

Ah, I was thinking this was a Wednesday thru Saturday deal. Well I can do most of it but not the whole week. I'd prefer the early part but I don't suppose it matters. So do you start out with more moderate trips earlier in the week and work up or what's the plan? I plan on getting air lined up soon.

It's an 07 f150 reg can. But not 4wheel drive :(

It does have good clearance. Don't know if that'll help

There are several trails you'd be just fine on, there are just as many that you shouldn't even attempt, and then there's the rest in the middle. Some places a lack of 4WD will be the issue, other places just not having weight on the rear will be the issue. I'd say go on out and enjoy and do what you can and ride or rent the others.

One thing is FOR SURE - you'll go home with a renewed vigor to get your Jeep squared away and then take it back sometime. It's breathtaking out there...

Dave, Are you going to do Poughkeepsie gulch this year?

I'd really like to do it but I usually wait to see who's going and if they are equipped. You need lockers to get up Poughkeepsie.
One option is to split up and have part of the group go around but it's a long way around.
Are you going to make it, Paul. You have a long way to go.

I hope you go too, Old Dog, so I can read about how much fun you guys had and seeing the great pics that Dave takes.

Well life already started with me. Had a water line freeze and burst in the upstairs bathroom. The house insurance is $1000 deductible so there goes enough gas money to get me out there. Hopefully things go better between now and ride time.

I sorry to hear that hope everything works out for you and it starts warming up soon.

Looks like Indy was a mess to.
The broken pipe could have been worse, my wife woke up when she heard the water running, so I got it shut off before things got real bad. Some new drywall in the bathroom is the worse of it.
Still hoping to make the ride, I love the mountains.

you have your priorities confused. Paper covers rock, scissors cut paper and adventure trumps plumbing.:D
