4.0 conversion cps ????

Picked up my donor vehicle last weekend.4.0 sounds excellent . donor is a 2000 rolled Cherokee with auto.
Getting mixed opinions on cps sensor. Been told both ways on sensor. Auto Transmission or manual Transmission does it make a difference? I'm thinking no. Then get a different bell housing off late model ( clutch issue)really don't want internal hydraulic, or modify my bell housing for cps or use my bell housing with hesco front cps convertion.
Do I need to be an electrical engineer to pilfer the harnesses out of the Cherokee?
A little feed back or direction for information would be appreciated, Thanks
Oh by the way this is going in a 74 CJ5 with a T-18 Transmission .

AUTO or Manual CPS doesnt make a difference it is the same part. It is just a magnetic pick up that is excited but the flywheel/flexplate teeth.

After 99 the motor mounts on the 4.0 changed. So a 99+ engine will not be a direct bolt in affair like the 98 and earlier 4.0s.

I have never done a OBDII harness but I can guarentee its going to be a challenge. I have been building OBDI harnesses and could probably do an OBDII if I applied myself to it but it would be a bear even for me. If you are not very familiar with wiring diagrams, its going to be a tough process, especially if you want to remove the excess wiring from the harness.

I have considered converting to a coiless 4.0 setup because it is just way cooler but ultimately in my own project I decided that the simpler OBDI setup will be a better way to go as I have figured out how to get the ecm to stop throwing trouble codes due to the swap.

I would suggest that you grab an OBDI setup and convert it to suit your purposes as a learning experience. Once you get the jeep running you can take that experience and use it to figure out the OBDII wiring.
