4.0 valve cover "steel inserts" and grommets

I just recently did the 4.0 head swap while my engine was being rebuilt. I dont recall any steel inserts or grommets when I took my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l cover off. Does anyone know where I can find them?

What are they for? I'm just trying to picture what parts you are needing.

i believe they go on top of the rubber grommets on the valve cover, the bolts go through them and it holds the cover in place... in a nutshell

Are you using a stock 4.0 valve cover? Dont recall any inserts when I did my swap

Yep, stock cover. I can probably get away with using washers on top of the grommets....

the inserts your talking about i think are on 4.0 cover and is a dealer only part. last time i needed them in a pinch i shot to the scrap yard and grabbed them. its really an isolator. a washer would crush the seal

Yep, I think i'm late to the party. Cant find them anywhere. tinman , the holes in mine are almost as big as the head of your bolts...

The 4.0 head uses a different cover than the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . What year head are you using?

Its a 1996 4.0 head..

The grommets came with my felpro cover gasket but I don't remember if it included the steel inserts. I didn't size them up but the inserts seemed the same as those on the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . You have your old one to grab from?

once again thats a dealer only item. And i believe you gotta get the bolt,insert and grommet as one,not cheap. which is why i got them from a scrap yard.you can get just the grommets with an aftermarket felpro valve cover kit for that 4.0 you got, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l never used them.
