4.2 just died!!!!!

Soory guys just came here to vent a little. My 1985 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l just died. Was running like a top lots of power idled great ect ect. I had the carb rebuilt due to a sticky choke. put it on and fired it up. idled good warmed up so I took it for a spin no further did i get down the road i herd a sound. Sounded like my fan was hitting something or like there was something wrapped around my drive shaft making a clicking sound so I turned around and pulled in the driveway and shut it off. opened the hood and did not see anything so I fired it up and it ran like spitting and sputtering wanting to stall and the clacking was loud and more frequent so i shut it off and pulled the plugs. Last plug twords the fire wall was chewed up! So now I'm debating the rebuild myself.

Sounds like it time to look into a 4.0 HO swap. IMO

So, by chance did you loose a nut or two while putting the carb. on? ...... Sorry, but this doesn't sound good a all.

You would take the 4.0HO over the 5.0V8? Just curious as to why? I'm looking at replacing my AMC 232 i6 3.8L and I was leaning heavily towards the V-8.

I plan on pulling it out later this week and doing a rebuild myself. No V8 for me I like the torque and the durability of the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I'm debating the 4.0 swap or just keeping it the way it was. The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l was like a tank when you put it into 4 LOW. This jeep is just a weekend toy not a daily driver. I will keep you up to date on my progress.
