Ok maybe someone can shed some light on this. I bought a 75 Jeep CJ5 which the owner claimed was a Salvage title. On the tile it says "remanufactured", with the year being "0000" and the title is a SPCNS - a specially constructed vehicle. The jeep is all steel original 75 jeep body, on an original frame, with mostly original suspension, and an AMC 360 motor. It is NOT a kit car that the SPCNS title would designate.

The jeep was last registered in 02 - it has since been non-op. Why would someone register it SPCNS? Does anyone have experience with this? I doubt I will be able to get the California DMV to change the title back to a normal vehicle, so I think I need to work with what it is. How the heck do I get this thing registered??

I'd verify that the frame and the body VINs match. Its possible that a PO has changed out one or the other and the title was modified to match the different VIN numbers.
On my '74 CJ5 there is a partial VIN number faintly stamped into the upper flat part of the frame above the right front tire. Might be the same on a '75.
If not, some frames are stamped over the right rear tire.

If all else fails, "sell" it to a friend in another state (WA state doesn't require inspections on out of state vehicles), the "buy" it back with the corrected title...
