I finally bought me a CJ7 and am going thru the list of options. That alone in itself makes you dizzy

Have started the teardown to. Fix the rust in the frame. After this I will sandblast and paint the frame. Going decent so far and have only broke the mid body mounts., all these had to be grinder off and will have some ingenious plan to reattach , I don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the

I swear I'm not drinking and it looks this way to me, maybe im under the Shallow Hal syndrome and i think a little more buffing and she'll look great

I love the stance the picture has but , down to earth, and this is what she looks like now.
Bought for a decent price considering all things r more expensive in Texas. Has QuadraTrac , with AMC 304 , runs strong and suspension is stiff but great offload.

In this pic I have just started the frame and will continue all around, but considered it a waste of time till por 15 gets here and renting a sandblaster. Gonna try for one of the commercial air comp. so I can hopefully do it in one day.

Thinking heavily about making custom spring hangars for the rear front hoops. And also probably box in rear of frame, retrofit shock towers in rear.

Steering will be completely rebuilt minus steering box, all new rubber, then hoping to be legal for the road, then safety issues addressed like 3 point seat belts, complete roll cage, hard doors and a hard top.

On a side note ill be getting a milling machine so hopefully the waters will part for me on fabrication upgrades.

Progress to date.

Finally cut an cleaned out bad parts of passenger side frame, and am ready to weld. Gonna finish this side first then move to drivers side. Hoping this will cut down on frame warpage, since quite a bit is cut out of frame, there's not much to hold the weight of the frame

Good start frame off is tons of work but you know it is right when you get done. Have done a couple of A body muscle cars between me and some friends nice to say I did that! Looking good keep it up!

Step 2

Have had a slow couple of weeks and was getting anxious to start again. So started to sandblast frame which took roughly 8 hours. Brother. Inlaw saved the day and was able to borrow for free a 185 deisel air compressor from work which allowed me to work pretty much non stop, while using a small Campbell hausfeld sandblaster. Surprisingly I did all this with 100 pounds of sand without having to recycle it.

Have painted front and rear to stop rust from reforming with por 15 and started welding frame fixes. Also has anyone painted over por15'. Do u have to scuff it like normal paint or is it just spray on new paint.? Was thinking of prime ring over por15 , then paint , maybe clear coat, not sure yet.

Waiting on parts to put back together, which is hopefully by the end of the month. I'm naturally detail oriented and have to keep telling myself not to go ballistic since it will be a daily driver, and first thing to happen when she's legal is go off road, so stop trying to make it a show car:shooter:

And my semi permanent por15 tattoos , accidentally touch my hair on it too, then later in the evening was cleaning of the screwdriver I was mixing it with and went to look in mirror and had marks all over my nose. , man you talk about freaking out, luckily I was able to rub them off, but nose is a little sore today. Don't know how but pic is upside down and reversed, don't drink while looking at this post, you may fall down, up In the air

I put my pictures up on Photobucket, then just use

tags around the pictures. Or use the little photo icon at the top, and copy/paste the picture links in. That way you're not Limited to just 5, and you don't have to worry about photo size.

Good looking work! Its nice to see someone that rolls their vertical welds UP. The way they're supposed to be done.

Moving along slowly. Had time to finish painting the motor. Not much else since the it's seems to be the rainy season here in Texas. Can't pull out the welder in between cloud changes, so not a lot done.

Motor Is Eastwood AMC blue. Looks really good and shiny in the sunlight. When it's darker out you can see the teal in it.
This pic doesn't do justice, I'll see if I can get a better one with sunlight for those intrested in this color.

As for the welds I wish I could take credit, my brother inlaw is the one who welded them, and he builds giant oil tanks by day, so he's a pretty proficient welder.
Gonna have him teach me, but not where the welds are overly important

Progress up to date.

Finished welding in frame pieces, and was able finish coating with por15. If it does not rain tomorrow, I will tape off holes on frame and coat inside with eastwoods internal frame coating. This should finish up all rust protection. On the second coat I really laid it on thick. Seems to come out really nice, almost like an oil based paint, and is for the most part self leveling. So as of right now. Im happy. The real test will be after a muddy day and using pressure washer, if none comes off I will be sold on the por 15.
Still deciding if I want the frame black or a dark grey.

Have a master set of bushing and will be spending the next week going thru these.
