96 Cherokee, looking to buy a CJ
This jeep is really good looking with gray metallic paint and light blue flames. It has a little rust bubbling the paint near the battery. The interior is in decent shape. It has a 4" lift and 31X10.5 BFGs on aluminum wheels.

It has a hard top and a bikini top.

It has a Chevy 350 crate motor with 2000 miles on it (300 hp, I'm told). The tranny (GM Turbo 400 with AMC bellhousing and a Performance adapter) was recently rebuilt by a respected local shop. The oil pan says, "GMC Hydramatic."

The axles are Dana 30 front with Limited slip, rear is Model 20 with Limited slip. It has Warn hubs and has been changed to a vacuum actuated 4WD switch in the glove box.

Problems: 1) It has a HUGE stainless fan on it and I was told it has had cooling problems in the past. 2) When I was test driving, it lost fuel and died. It has an electric in-line fuel pump and I could see that the tiny, clear fuel filter was not flowing well even though it is new. The owner said he was going to replace the line between the tank and pump and had already removed and cleaned the tank.

Anyone know any problematic history with this year, model, etc.? Any ideas on the fuel delivery problem? Is it worth $8500? What would you offer?

Thanks!

Some pic's would be nice, but than again I would NOT give anything close to $8500 for a cj thats had all thoes mods done. I think someone is selling his problem to you.:(

Old Dog beat me to it, he's got a great amount of info and would be the guy to listen to!

I would look for a jeep that is stock and doesnt have any issues because people here have done 350 swaps and did it right but there are people who have seen that swap go very wrong, and that seems like that could be to much HP for the stock axles even if he beefed them up a little. Most people sell these because something doesnt work or something went wrong.

First, I always look for a street queen, do not want someones beat up and wore out junk. second 8500 is a mint for a CJ.

now he is selling a problem, to big a engine for the radiator so he mounts a uge fan and it still overheats, you will need to upgrade that radiator, figure a grand for a new radiator and the sheet metal work to get it installed correct.

gas delivery problems? so can you engineer the gas system needed to run that crate 350 or are you going have to pay a mechanic to figure it out?

those are just 2 of the problems the Jeep has and he cannot get fixed, what other problems do you want to inherit with the outrageous price he wants

tell him you will give him 1800 dollars up front, and if you can get it fixed for less than 2 grand you will give him another 2 grand after it is fixed and other wise you will give him 2500 dollars and he losses all his problems.

Face it after doing mods like that, if he could drive it, he would not want to sell it, he is offing a huge problem and hopes you look at the bling and not the headaches and wallet busting problems

For $8500 you can get a good running, clean, rust free Jeep out of somewhere down south and be in good shape.

heck, I even know someone that is selling there's right now for less than that and it is is better shape and RUNS and COOLS. too bad you are on the other side of the country.

Keep looking... it will be better in the long run.
