So tonight I got out the ol grinder and cut me out an access hole to the fuel sending unit... After I unearthed some old dirt from it I found it but now have NO CLUE how to take it out!? Is it just sitting in there, snaps in? Something else? Not sure what the tank size is and looking at the new unit it doesn't appear to screw in as there is no other hardware with it (believe its a crown unit)

Can anyone help with how to pull the old unit out?? I can't find anything online on how to do it...

I haven’t done it in a long time but the outside ring should turn and in essence “screw” out. Take a piece of wood and put it on the right side lip and tap it to the left. DO NOT use anything metallic as sparks and the gas fumes could lead to an exciting afternoon……

Just as a reference the new sending unit reads a range of appx. 14ohm(empty) - 77ohm(full) but is not being friendly with the aftermarket gauge that was installed by PO..

Just testing the range of the arm it goes from full to 3/4 on the gauge then jumps directly to empty after...

The old unit still installed is showing 13.5 ohm (with a known full tank) and is causing the gauge to always read full

Well go to leave this Morning and am hit by a strong gas smell when walking into the garage... Apparently over night I have now aquired a leak from somewhere on the bottom or bottom half of the tank and its dripping out from between the bottom bracket and bottom of the tank.

Looks like I have to end up dropping the tank now anyways.. Ugh

Didn't even mess with the fuel sender last night so how or why this happened confuses me. Guess ill have to be buying a new tank too.

Drove it to work and been watching it since I've gotten here and not a single drop has leaked out but I still smell it. Weird

getting the sending unit gasket to seal can be challanging.:D

There could be cracked hoses in there that would cause that, this would be a great time to replace them.

If you clean some of the dirt off it may be easier to see how it works.

On mine you turn the ring counter clockwise.

Drive the ring counter clockwise about 1/4 turn and it will pop out... Use plenty of Vaseline in the new o ring and make sure to tap the lock ring back around evenly otherwise the o ring will roll...
