Build Thread 82 CJ7 frame swap & lift build

Build Thread 82 CJ7 frame swap & lift build
A few days after I got home from the dunes, I was also able to play around in the woods with my cousin going through some off camber gullies and different terrain (keeping the tires inflated). I almost had as much fun with that (in town) as I did at Silver Lake. There is a local club called Sun Downers (a Kalamazoo, MI group) that I may look into joining just so that I don't have to make a 2+ hour trip. I am not ready YET for mud or getting the body panels smashed in, because it is still all so new, but I am going to wheel it. It wasn't meant to stay on the pavement.

Random pictures I took this past week and a couple from just after I got it running...

Looks great! Makes me want to get after my project!

Looking good. I'm sure it feels great to finally drive it again. Love the b&w shots at the barn. It almost looks like chrome paint in some.

I have to agree with everyone else , very nice. :chug: I still want your leftovers though. ;)

I made it up to Silver Lake again, this time with my family, but my back seat didn't come in time to take the whole family out at once. I was able to add on to the roll cage in the back, but a back ordered seat bracket kept me from getting them all in. My cousin made his first trip to the dunes with us in a very low mileage Jeep he and his wife got a year or two ago. It is probably the first time off road.

Thought I would add some more dune pictures. I mentioned to friends of mine- In the sun and the sand, the Jeep reminds me of my wife- I just like to look at her. :D ...topless

I entered the Jeep in a local car show the day after we got back from the dunes. I went to this show last year before mine was done and planned to enter this year. Last year, no Jeeps. This year, three within a few years of each other. The other two where 1979's. One had gone through a frame off restoration (patching a pretty rotten frame) and the other just had a lot of mechanical work done. The guy in the middle just frequents car shows and puts his in while he's there. There were only about 125 cars total, so two of us made the top 15 trucks. I didn't let it go to my head since there were less than 20 "trucks" total. It was neat to talk to the other two guys about their Jeeps.

You know the protocol of these message boards... pictures or it didn't happen!:D

she'd kill me, but I have to come up with something she would agree with to get her and my Jeep in the Jeep chicks section of JP magazine

Tell her first place in the contest wins a million dollars and a bag of diamonds. :) She'll be on the hood waiting before you have the lens cap off.

Gotta try that one lol! :chug:

Heh...now you got me thinkin... "Hey, woman! Come here a minute..."

We'll see how this one goes over for me. ;)

This winter I am hoping to tie up some loose ends that I never took care of once the Jeep was on the road last summer. One major thing being the Weber 38/38. It is sitting in a box on the work bench, but I still have some reading to do before I dive in.

I finally did the Team Rush upgrade, with the larger cap, rotor, new wires and bigger gap on my plugs- I couldn't tell how much of a difference it made, but it sounds like it couldn't do anything but help.

My cousin and I put a coil spring lift on his TJ and took them out in the snow for a picture. I played with the pic for a while in photoshop and for fun we are going to get some t-shirts made.

Still deciding on whether to put Silver Bags Off Road, or keep it Silver Bags Jeep Club.

Also took it out in the snow recently, but it was sad how quickly I got stuck, and kept getting stuck every time I got out ...tires/weight ratio?

Ended up with some good pictures and a lot of exercise from shoveling at the very least :)

That is a fine looking ride that you've built! Very impressive!

For my flag mount, I used the quick connectors used with air tools that my buddy gave me. Once it is set up, it is a quick and easy way to put on and take off flags while up in the dunes. The one I was using broke off, and since I never showed this in detail, I figured I would take pictures the 2nd time around.

I went to home depot and picked up a new female brass quick connector and bolted it back on. The hole was already in the frame from the factory, I just had to take a hole saw to the black plastic. It seemed like a good spot. With the pipe insulation on the flag itself, my hood doesn't get beat up by the flapping pole either.

I am sure many of you have seen this before- just thought I would show it in detail for those of you who have not.

My wife and kids are having a girls weekend out of town at the MIL's house, so today I started the process of installing a new Weber 38/38 carburetor. I have the old Carter carb off and am going to do some reading on this site to see what I need to know in order to take most of the emissions lines and air pump off.

Before I could get the Jeep into the insulated garage, I had to take my Red Top Optima back to Advance Auto for a new one. It was dead and would not charge over 6.3 volts while I was slow charging it. They tested it and said it needed replaced. I just bought it in May 2013 so under warranty still, but makes me wonder what the deal was.

Throughout dissassembly of the carb. I took a lot of pictures and taped/labeled a number of the lines so that hopefully I can figure out how to get everything back together.

I figure I won't learn anything if I just take it in and have someone else swap the carb for me. I am not in a hurry, so if I don't get it figured out right away there is no reason to get stressed about it.

I attached my new favorite picture. Still reminds me of my wife- I just like to look at her. :D

I just had to compare the first pic and a later one.

The Optima batterys have tanked quality wise since the moved production of them. Cant remember if it was Mexico or overseas but the product isnt what it used to be.
