83 CJ5, 258 - 1st restoration

Hi all,
I just purchased an 83 CJ5 that I am planning a full restoration on. I have owned two other CJ's in the past but this will be my first restoration project. I plan using this jeep as mostly a highway driver with only occasional light off road use. I do not plan on installing a lift or large tires, but I would like to incorporate some mechanical upgrades as I go.
I would appreciate any recommendations, guidance, advise, must do's, don't do's, etc., from some of you with one or two restorations under your belt.

Unless you have a photographic memory...take lots of pics...when you come back to rebuild things some time later...you may have forgotten how it went back together...particularly small parts on carbs etc...caught me out a couple of times...oh...and wiring and vacume hoses.....best of luck with your build...post pics so we can follow..

Bag and tag all nuts/bolts/etc, even if you don't plan on reusing it. Specifically label each different type/size bolt that comes off a particular part. Example...Alternator boltls...there are several different bolts that are different sizes and go in a specific location. Label exactly where each one goes and it will save you a lot of time putting it back together....One of these days I'll follow my own advice and not spend twice as long looking for fasteners and figure out where they do as I do on the rest of the project.

Just got it started. 1st time it has run in over 10 years. It blew a bunch of rat poop out of the exhaust when it first fired up!
Idles great! Small exhaust leak, and smoked at first. I poured about 1/2 cup of sea foam in the oil, and it immediately started running smoother. After idling for about 10 minutes, it stopped smoking.
Nice feeling!
Some new tires and a new gas tank, and I may drive it around for a bit before I start stripping it down!
