Suz, could vise grips get around those bolt heads for you to loosen them up? This would be for the heads that have stripped out, plus provide a better grip. A tap on the vise grips with a hammer could help also. Looking at that pic, the Transfer Case appears to be sagging like from bad motor mounts.

Im a bit late to the party but another thing you should do with Torxs sockets is hit them with a hammer a bit to make sure their seated good.

Will run to town and try to get one. Our Sears is pretty sparse on inventory though. Got one bolt out. The rest are not completely stripped, but I can't get my bit seated even with a hammer blow...

Make sure the void in the torx bolt is clean too, dirt and grime can keep the socket from going in all the way. A small straight screw driver will help to clean out the crud

O. K., so Sears here does not have that in stock . May call around. Did p/u a taller set of jackstands than the ones I bought this a. m. -21" for the same money as 16.77". Also p/u a Kobalt T40 bit from Lowe's...
Will try later. Ran into an old buddy, got to talking and forgot to go install the sign I went to town for... Back to town then I'm ready for a cold one :-)

Use one of those small mapp or propane cans that hardware store stores sell with the trigger lighter. Hot enough to burn the paint and not hot enough to reach the flash point of the oil, and not red hot.

Have you got a hammer impact wrench? They are VERY handy for removing Philips screws from a motorcycle without destroying the Philips slots. I've had good luck using them for stuck torx screws. The impact of the hammer drives the bit in hard, it shocks the screw and turns. Many pieces of junk have been saved with a simple hammer impact tool.

Just have socket set that stays in the toolbox, plus misc. wrenches and screwdrivers. Obviously need to add to my collection. Most of my tools are for sign-making i.e. saws, drills, paint supplies...
I did pick up a 4" bench vise at Lowes the other day- reg. $50.,clearanced to $20. Couldn't resist ;-)

Looked there. Just ended up leaving w/ a new T40 bit. Probably better than the cheap one I had.

As has been said already, yes thats the critter right there. I don't know how I missed the link. These tools are available most any where tools are sold so Sears isn't the only place to find one. A very handy, serious tool. You can use it for various screw heads AND pull the adaptor off to use it with sockets. Mine has sat in my tool box for 40 years, almost my oldest tool. Mostly it sits, but when I need it there is nothing that works better.

Girl, you seem like the type that doesn't mind getting dirty and your curious so you need some serious tools. Build your tool set up slowly, buy when you need somehting. I can not tell you how many hours I've spent "making due" with the wrong tool when the job can be done in minutes with the right tool. Theae days we are lucky. If you have a Harbor Freight in town they can save you a BUNCH on tools your likely to use a few times. Some of their stuff used to be junk, but not so much anymore. For tools you are likely to use a lot, pay the extra money you won't be sorry. I have had Craftsman hand tools for years, but I discovered they have a professional set of tools, generally a litle longer, heavy hard chrome not for show. Hard Chrome is the stuff used on hydrolic rams, tough but not necessarily pretty. Every chance I get a Chraftsman Professional grade wrench finds it's way to my house.

Me too. Most of my tools are Craftsman Pro grade. I like it that they're made in the USA.

I'm not a big believer in Kobolt tools. I find them to be brittle or soft or any number of things wrong ..... they are pretty though.
