1984 CJ-7 (just bought it, so I have to do some work and see what it has in it.. other than 4.2L Auto.. 4" lift, 33" tires... my '75 had a 304 2" Burbank supspension, warn winch, full cage, all the goodies, the '79 had a 401 turbo charged hi-po with t98 or 18, which ever one had the granny low first gear (never can remember which).. had all the items needed to 4wheel, none of the show and go poopie.. I don't believe "chrome will get you home"! I'm also not one to go out to see if I can tear up my jeep, I go where I must, usually with a group that I hung with.. Used to be part owner in Diablo Off Road Center in Concord California.. Jack Essex owned Diablo 4WD, George Clause was Mr. Base CAmp, and mine was "Sounds Etc" all under one big roof "the Diablo Off Road Center"..
I removed all of the a/c from my 1984 CJ7 except for the compressor.. can't take it off because of the serpentine belt routing? anyone know of where I can buy one of those by-pass pulley assembly's so I can yank the compressor off the motor?

I would suggest a Jeep junkyard, but some people (like me) convert them into an onboard air system.

I'd be interested in seeing pic's and an explanation of how you did that.. may be the only way short of fabricating a mount for a pulley.. thanks for the idea..

No pics since I am at work, but the Jeep CJ a/c compressor can work as an air compressor for trail use like to fill up tires and can even be used to operate an air wrench. Its use is Limited since compressing air does get it quite hot and it does need a lubrication system. You should be able to find lots of info on the web, like doing a search for "CJ onboard air). I think this forum even has some info on your options of using an a/c compressor, 12 volt compressor, or a compressed air tank.

Its VERY easy to do. You add a filter to one end of the hose, remove all the old oil in the compressor (its hydroscopic). Use a tool oiler (like on a workshop air compressor) which takes care of the lube. Keep the condensor in the system (ie the radiator from the AC system) which cools the air before it gets to the tank. The York compressors have a crankcase that holds oil for lube but the CJ ones work fine too.

I like it.. I'll give it a shot.. maybe a larger tank somewhere to give it some more volume?

Those 2 1/2 gal. air tanks fit nicely in front of the gas tank on the later CJs with a 4" lift, and work quite well. I have seen some bumpers converted into air tanks and the 5 gal. tank mounted in the bed.
