Hey guys. Im in the process of sticking a SBC 350 into my CJ6 . Im looking for a good clutch. Any recommendations?

59CJ6,
Centerforce Dual Friction, its got the holding power for slow four wheeling and the high speed cruising. It was made for the four wheeler.

I've not used Centerforce because I feel it's overpriced compared to both LUK, EXEDY, and Sachs clutch setups. And since LUK is a primary supplier to both of those 'manufacturers'...I run LUK Rep Set packages.

No problems behind my 4.7 stroker...and it's the same unit that ran on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /4.0 conversion motor. About 33, 000 on the stroker and 8,ooo on the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l before I broke a ring.

Make sure you have the right pilot bearing and use a clutch friction disk that will fit your Transmission and run with whatever you want.

I really enjoyed my centerforce II overprice or not works great, like Hedgehog said make sure your input spline count and diameter matches tranny input shaft :chug:

I love my centerforce as well. no personal experience with the others mentioned, but I used to smoke up my stock type clutch consistently while wheeling.

I do now have 7:1 granny gear that helps, but I think the centerforce dual friction is also an improvement.

They are pricey though ;)

Thanks guys.

I have read a lot of mixed opinions across the web about Centerforce. Most forums i have browsed prefer the LUK clutches.

This is going to go on a SM465 Transmission i just picked up this weekend. This is all part of the new build im doing. Im planning on starting a "build thread" for it here soon.

On my second C/F 2 in 20+ years.
I'll stick with Centerforce.
LG

^This.

I've used lots of LuK clutches in lots of different cars. From high HP mustangs to Honda Civics (I'm a mechanic so I've installed quite a few clutches), I've never had a single issue with LuK. As a matter of fact, I ran the stock Mustang clutch disc with a heavy duty pressure plate from an F150 and it bit so hard that it literally made a bunch of hairline cracks that you could see light through on the friction surface of the flywheel.

The disc really isn't as important as the pressure plate as that is what gives the clamping force. Also note, that increased pressure plate clamping force = increased pedal effort.

The other brands mentioned, Exedy and Sachs, are also very good quality clutches.

I have used Hays clutches behind my sbc's for 4 decades plus with no problems. I've had both their diaphragm and B&B styles, both in 11", and you can not tell the difference in respect to pedal effort needed.

My take on Centerforce is that they are good but the dual friction disc thing is nothing more than a sales gimmick. What ever the difference is in those friction surfaces, the least desirable side will win.

I bought a twin disc McLeod for my next sbc project. Jury is still out on that one.
