Anyway address the bolt issue and I think you are good to go.

The bell housing is aluminum so the threads aren’t all that strong compared to cast iron. Some idiot could have messed them up.

You might be able to repair them with threaded inserts such as “Helicoil” brand. Not only do they work great, they are actually stronger than original.

If that fails you “might” be able to drill & tap for a larger bolt.

I’d at least try before replacing it!

Mounted the block plate up today. I clearly see the holes for the starter. I will need a bolt for 12 o’clock position as there wasn’t one in there and there is a hole in the block for it. I just can’t figure out what the two highlighted holes are for. Possibly just need bolts, washers, and nuts for the block plate. I don’t know. I guess we’ll see once she goes back in.

The dowels go at 3 and 9 o’clock. One was missing. Thank god I ordered new ones.

My AMC 304 , which I believe is the same bell housing, has bolts in the positions you highlighted, and pretty sure the last AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l did also. The top center has nothing. If you look at the bell housing, the metal at the 12 o'clock position is quite thin. I don't know for sure, but maybe this hole is for mounting a bracket for something on an automatic Transmission . Definitely not a factor in holding the bell to the engine.

Every one that I've ever seen only has a bolt and nut pinching the bellhousing and plate together. I never could figure out why. But then I'm no engineer.

So got home from work and took some more pics. I can see three threaded holes on the top side of the block. So it appears that only five bolts hold the bellhousing on. I removed the pressure plate and clutch disk and it appears to me that there is no pilot bearing. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe I’m wrong. Lastly is the cover on the side of my Transmission the pto port? Novak needed to know which side it’s on to determine transmission

I can't even see the pocket that the pilot bearing goes in at. Almost like there is a broken shaft of some sort in there!

Edit: Compared to other pics of the Ford style T-18 on the net, the pilot shaft looks a bit larger.

Looks to me like the Transmission was out at some point and the tip on the input hit the pilot bushing putting the transmission back in.
