Street Jeep for snow and ice, still on blocks in the driveway. '73 CJ5, 258 inline six, T18 tranny, Model 20 transfer case, Dana 30/44 w/ 4.27 ratio (soon to be 3.73), original Cutlas hubs, half-cab waiting to be installed. Daily driver is a 20-year-old Mazda pickup.

I've become bleary-eyed reading about the different Jeep models and their changes. I believe that if I swap my '73 windshield for a post-'75 windshield, then a Scrambler half-cab would bolt right up. (And I'd have to use post-'75 CJ5 doors.)

Am I on the right track? Jeep half-cabs make me drool, and there's one available nearby.

Yes... and this info solves your other thread's question about the soft door. Other considerations:

1-rollbar probably wont work. some custom wrangling will be needed there.

2-doors. hard doors are rare for CJ5 and they may not be wide enough to fill the gap to the scrambler top. Possibly the best solution is cutting up CJ-8 doors to make work.

3-CJ5s have a squared lip around the tub. CJ7s and I think 8s have a triangular shape lip around the tub. Might be an issue...

I think it would look cool! If you have some fabricating skills and imagination go for it!

Im going off the 78 Cj-5 I had. It came from the previous owner with a Scrambler top and a homemade bulkhead.

1. A roll bar from a '76 -'81 should work. You want the style that bolts to the rear wheel wells only , not to the floor behind the drivers seat.

2. It had Acme hard doors on it for a Cj-5. Not easy to find and a bit pricey if you do. You dont want to use any Cj7 / Cj8 doors.

3. My 78 Cj-5 had the same lip around the tub as my Scrambler. Your earlier model may be different.

BC CJ said:

Yes... and this info solves your other thread's question about the soft door.
Thanks, guys. My current roll bar DOES bolt to the wheel wells, so it's apparently the later version. Soft doors don't bother me, and a flange difference isn't a deal-breaker. I can certainly fabricate a bulkhead.

I was more concerned about what windshield to use, and if there was an actual difference in the width or shape of the CJ5 tub and the Scrambler body. Sounds like a GO! (Well, after a few more paydays.)
