You can run a K&N or Edelbrock or whatever brand you want round air cleaner, here's a picture of my engine bay. My only problem is because of the power brake booster I can only fit a 7" round air cleaner in there.

As for the vent house, there is a metal piece that attaches (loosely) on to the exhaust manifold. That house runs from there, up to the air filter assembly. The theory behind it is that the warm air off of the exhaust manifold will help the carburetor warm up more quickly.... There is a vacuum actuated flapper on the inside of the air filter assembly that closes when the engine reaches a certain temp and that "warmed" air off of the exhaust manifold is no longer used.

Where did you get that little filter at on the valve cover and how did you get it to fit?
Thanks,

It's called a valve cover breather

It just pushes down in there, there was a rubber grommet that came with the filter, I just had to trim it a little bit to make sure it fit correctly.

What did u do about the hose that run from the exhaust manifold to the stock air filter ?? Just leave it open

It's not actually connected to anything, the end is just near the exhaust manifold, the piece that hose attaches to can be removed too.

The original is called a TAC, Thermostatically controlled Air Cleaner. If emissions are an issue in East Texas It is something you may choose to remove but don't throw it away. For that matter never throw anything away, if you can help it. As an example, people in Cali. will pay good money for a smog pump pulley. TACs are becoming harder and harder to find.

You're not going to find an Edelbrock small enough for a stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . You've really only got 3 choices, Holley, Weber or Motorcaft.
