There must be something in the water, I too just bought a 1975 CJ5 with a AMC 304 v8, Dana 30 front end, T-15 gearbox/Dana 20 Transfer Case and a Dana 44 rear end. Sitting on 36's with a skyjacker suspension lift and a 3" body lift. Only problems so far have been mis-aligned windsheild wipers, low on oil (no leaks or oil consumption so far), brutally low brake fluid (again no leaks spotted) and the best for last, loose u bolts on the rear end. Is it true that I should refrain from attempting to tighten them and just replace them?

Well there is one other thing. the steering column, as it passes between the exhaust manifold and the frame rubs the shock mount severely. I has worn into the mount (without damaging the connecting bolt) as well as gound 1/8" into the column itself. Any fixes? is it caused by the lift?

Glad to be part of the forum, Planning on doing a lot of research here!

As for loose U bolts, take a look at your spring pack center bolts to make sure they are still in good shape as they will get all the stress. I just put new U bolts in as mine would not stay tight.

Thanks Danc9, we are practically neighbors! Sasquach, thanks for the advice, I looked them over and all seems to be in order. I tightened them this morning and she is a whole new rig! What a difference!

Welcome from one 75 owner to another. That's a nice looking rig!

I've been rebuilding mine now for about a year and half. This site has been really helpful with the process.

Good luck - Bill :chug:

:ww: from Colorado. Nice looking Jeep looks like all you are missing is a winch.
