Members CJs Another new guy to the forum, but not CJ-7s.

Just traded for a 1981 CJ7 . Great frame, rusted tub.. no CJ owner is shocked. Running gear is an '87 Corvette 350 tpi, connected to an NV4500, Dana 300 , and the standard A20/Dana 30 . The plan... to duplicate my favorite drivetrain (CJ-7 #2) a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l cammed and Weber'd with a header and HEI. Then, Wagoneer axles... same as last time, cut the Dana 44 down to CJ wide track and get offset wheels for the AMC20 . Spring under... about 4" lift on YJ springs. Looking forward to going thru the vast amounts of info I've seen here, so far.

I don't want the electronics part of it. Even the simple set this has. I want to send 12 volts to a distributor and go.

Welcome to the Forum. A wealth of knowledge and experience here, for sure. Great people too.

Hopefully it's got good bones - meaning the frame isn't rotten like the body. Looks like it has on-board-air too, with that manifold with the 2 air chucks & gauge. That's cool.
Alot of people would love it, spend many hours for it and the resources to have that small block chevy. I wouldn't. But, just something to ponder before you go back to the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .
You may be able to offload the whole motor setup to one of those guys.
The Transmission is a good 5-speed, but will take some adaptation to a 258. You'll find info here on that.

What about carb swapping what you have? If you really want simple a small block will do it.

I don't think I'll have any trouble finding a new home for the 350. My hotrod friends are already peeking over the fence waiting to see what I do. I've had a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l on an NV4500 before. Advanced Adapters still sells the kit I used decades ago.
