ON THE HUNT AGAIN
The 4.0 is probably the most recognizable and longest-running Jeep powerplant in the brand's history.

It was discontinued  at the end of the 2006 model year and the redesigned 2007 and onward JK Jeep Wranglers use Chrysler's 3.8 L OHV V6.

This engine was made in the People's Republic of China, where a slightly modified version of the XJ Jeep Cherokee with 2.5 and 4.0 engines were being produced alongside the Chinese-produced WJ Grand Cherokee since 2006.

Sad but true.

I knew when the CJ line died, I would never buy another Jeep (newer).

 is all i got to say.

Progress! Two steps forward and one back.

Fiat didn't kill the I6, Chrylser did. They decided it was time for a revamp of one of the best motors they used. Probably some young engineer trying to streamline things. Use the same motor for 10 cars, it will be competent for the Jeep too.

Don't blame Jeep blame our Goverment. The Goverment made Jeep use a V6 to have a crumple zone so it could take a front and hit.

Fiat didn't kill the I6, Chrylser did.

Mr. Marchione is the CEO of both Fiat and Chrysler, as well as Case New Holland. Don't kid yourself, they even own Iveco - an engine manufacturer. He can kill any program with ulterior motives yet to be reveled to the public. Fiat 500s are coming to the US and Chrysler dealers. I predict in the future the Chrysler name will be changed to Fiat. Only a matter of time. . . .

At this point I consider the jeep to be dead.
Question is will it ever return.
Saw a new jeep today, top, body, flares, etc all the same color wierd orange candy metallic. It looked like a freaking h3. WTF!

The H3 drivers are the people that they're (Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep/whoever) marketing is driven towards. Assclowns with more money than brains and want something big that they can put 26" wheels with low profile tires on. And hey guess what, they've accomplished that with the new JK, most of the one's that I see here that have been modified are lifted with big <-BAD WORD-> chrome rims, low profile tires and some ornamental "armor" to make it look hard

Devil advocate here... Put on some good tires and they are seriously capable off roaders. Unfortunately, few will ever know that fact!

he's right under all of that polish and plastic there is still a jeep under there, give it some time and let the real jeep crowd get em paid for and modified and i believe you'll be seeing them alot more off road. think about how nice it would be to have a 4 door, capable off roader you can load 3 kids, wife, and a weekends worth of camping junk in, beat the :dung: out of it and drive it back home then to work on monday. i say give it some more time to come into its own and it'll be more loved and out perform the tj. don't get me wrong here, i don't agree with the crappy <-BAD WORD-> new v6. but my biggest issue with it is it comes in a two wheel drive version, how damn useless is a 2wd wrangler, it doesn't deserve the name on it.

There are companies starting to do street lifts to fit those 20+" wheels, mostly extreme body lifts. Saw one yesterday with I swear 4" body lift. Was scary looking as hell.

Once the grill slanted back it ceased to be a jeep!

They said the same thing about square headlights and coil springs.

Those Jeeps seem to be doing very well and I believe this new generation will too.

Change isn't always bad.

I agree the new Jeeps become more and more "main stream" and less and less...........a Jeep.
