Another towing question

I currently have a 1986 cj7 with a 700r automatic transmission,4.2L,Dana 300 transfer case and I am wanting to know what I need to do to flat tow it short distances. I already have the tow bar and chains but have been hesitant to use them. Thanks ! mike

Short distances put it in neutral. Long distances pop off the driveshaft in the rear.

Quantify 'short distances': Under 100 miles? Under 50 miles? Under 10 miles?

I wouldn't personally two further than 20-miles with the Dana 300 in neutral. Don't know about other tc options.

I've found proof of the PO towing mine around 340 miles round trip without disconnecting the rear drive-shaft and no issues. HOWEVER, I've seen enough proof in my own searches around the internet world that I would not approve of it. Disconnecting the DS and suspending it up is so easy that I'd do it no matter how far. It's even easier than connecting the tow bar, hitching it to the tow vehicle or getting the lights hooked up.

Owners manual, says Auto in park & Transfer Case in Neutral, 200 miles, if more than that stop every 200 miles, start engine put in D & rev for a minute to circulate TC oil. PO is lucky it did not fry, I have had to rebuild numerous TC just for that problem.
Remove or suspend back of drive line and go were ever.

Take 5 minutes and 'disco' the DS at the pinion.
Remember what a t'case costs--
