Happens intermittently when shifting through the gears. It stops when I take it out of gear. I got under the Jeep trying to find the culprit and noticed that the speedo cable buzzes when you tap it. I tightened some of the cable to frame mounts and wrapped it with fuel line in a few places and it stopped for several months... now it is back.

Has anyone experienced this? Had a shop look at it and they thought it was the throw out bearing... they replaced the clutch with the LUK kit from Napa... no change.

Could there be something that was missed when the engine and Transmission were put back in the Jeep? Do speedo cables buzz when the inner lining or cabe itself wears out?

Looking for ideas.

Thanks.

Grease the speedo cable.

I use Sta-Lube Engine Assembly Lube, for the speedo cable.

Usually when a speedometer inner cable goes bad, the speedometer needle will jump around. I have used commercially available speedometer lube in the past. I believe it is primarily graphite so that it does not cause a binding problem at low temperatures.

Thanks for the feedback. Speedo needle does not jump around.

I'll try disconnecting it and let you know. If the noise stops, I'll lube it. If that doesn't work, I'll replace it.

Is ATP a good brand? I've gotten three different lengths recommended on websites. Seems like the ends are all the same. I'll have to measure.
