I went out to change the turn signal switch in my CJ7 and assumed it would be pretty straightforward to get the steering wheel off. It has a security quick-release with 4 torx bits exposed. Problem is, when I go to turn them, all 4 spin freely in both directions. Anyone ever used one of these that can tell me how to get the dang thing off? No idea what brand (assuming it's Grant like the wheel) but can't find one or its instructions anywhere on the web.

They don't want it to be easy to get to those splines. Maybe someone can chime in that has one of those.

If those torxheads have stripped threads on them, it might be possible to remove them by applying pressure behind whatever it is that they hold down and trying to unscrew them. Those four holes might be rotated into a position where some hold down screws might be revealed also. It has to come off somehow.

Who else would know about torxheads but Torxhead but it sounds like there is a nut on the back side that is rotating.
Is there any opening to get back there with a wrench?

Ahhhhh interesting! There's no opening on the outer shroud, but if you look at the black plate on the front, there are four c-shaped openings - one near every bolt. I was wondering why they even were there, but I bet it could be for access to those nuts. It's getting dark here, let me go check real quick and report back.

Just went and looked, and if you get up really close and look down in those c-channels there are some allen heads hidden down there in the dark. I also had a buddy of mine track down the install instructions for me and I'll post the link here in case anyone else runs into this.

Guess I'll have good turn signals again - next weekend :)
