Not sure if this is posted in the right area. Anyways I'm in need of some serious guidance in the engine area. I have a CJ7 that I have bn working on nonstop trying to get to running again. Long story short, I have replaced frame by myself, the tubs :dung:. Anyways I have gottn it going again, but it ran like :dung:. Rebuilt carb & ran lot smoother, then I tried diggn into the electrical. whoops I have new dist. coil I want to do the nutter bypass. I get it that for the most part. For a cabinet man Im holdn my own.. But I dont feel confident in this area at all. I jst nd someone to stop by it all possible to oversee to make make sure it done right. I asked and ask ever1 I know even so called mechanics their clueless. I will do everything thing just nd some help..

It is n Honor of my Father..So this Means Alot.
Im right off 75 in Acworth area.

your right in the middle between cheepjeep and I
cheep is by far the most knowledgeable on engines
I am in that area maybe once a week
there is a guy in rockmart that has tons of parts
and i think there is one more member in Kennesaw

but
what is it doing? questions with pics are better
and can you post pics ?

one thing you might want to do ( it will be asked alot here)
go over to harbor freight and pick up a voltmeter if you dont have one ( maybe $7 or 15 for a decent one)

bells ferry and 575

First of all thx for the rapid responses. I believe your talking bout Jody. That's where I got my frame. I have pick his brain as well. GOOD DUDE

I have the ol' man's voltmeter that I have been fumbling with, aloung with other simpler testers. The 12 volt system is still new to me. I almost hate electrical/plumbing as much as do painting. You understand.

Anyways I went and got a points system dist. and new coil. Ignition module can go away? RIGHT??

I am really have a hard time finding 6 oclock for the rotor alignment while having existing chalk line and the slot on the crank case to be at top dead center. (Could someone have possibly put the crank case gear on slight off causing this? From my research it needs to be close to 5-6:00 oclock for rotor. Dist and 1 plug is a 6 oclock. Vacuum pick up thing is right against the block. Doesn't seem right.
Can I run the vac line from dist to the upper part of the carb vac ports. 2nd one down on the left side looking directly at carb. The 2 ports actually look 2be 3/8 hoses orig supposed to go to vacuum canister- Can I just cap the top one under the filter Tac System.. Or is there a better place to put this hose? From dist?

Wiring So Far: Dist. to - side of coil, + goes to hot red/white wire coming from fuse block also a jumper wire from starter solenoid. Also under the dash that R/W off the base of steering colom wire is ran to wipers and various other switches.

(I was told that + from coil needs to to go directly to ignition switch??? Meaning the key switch right? Which should be the only wire going here?
Any Idea the color of the wire coming down the steering column from the key switch?
I was told thats all that is needed. (Love to hear that) The starter solenoid. is to be left alone.

I will prob. do a push button ignition directly.. Any1 have a good diagram from this? (Can I wire the push button switch temp. I have lying around to ease trouble shootn for now.)
Positive and ground I think is all is needed for this right?

Blue wire I believe is going to the ignition switch. I notice a splice in the line going back to the firewall near the MCU.

Alternator goes to starter sil + side and my ground for it goes to the firewall junction to fuse box. (Should I rerun the ground to the chassis for a better ground?)

The hot wire was orig. hot to the touch in the wire loom, so me thinking (short) I can fix this rats nests is the what started this disaster.

I still think there to many wires tied to the (hot) Red/white coming from fuse box. Does this sound right so far???
I

Finally I was able to hear her run for a minute today after it was spiting out of the carb earlier today which is new.

Again I really just trying to get her running for now, I will obviously will be going back and soldering everything thing once I can clean this nightmare up..

I know pics are coming I swear.

thx again

these are
ignition diagram
the ignition switch
and my coil that's on "the beast"
I think Elwood has a pic that shows distributor at top dead center on his profile page gallery
uh....blue wire is going to the ignition
mine has been spliced and dice from all ( or most) emissions
and runs great except for puffs of white smoke ( but working on that now)
I will post pics of everything i can
in GA your at the 25 year mark ( antique tag ) and emissions is not required for tag either

one of the many reasons for pics is
some these members are champion "what wrong with this picture" they can spot some stuff from a pic that i couldn't spot if was on my nose
and they can tell what are mods and what is oem
and some of your questions will be answered with a pic saying something like " look at this " or something like that
everybody here is great and very helpful

I may only know with less than 24 hours of when i am in your area
I am closer to the airport and visit parents, friends and family on the south-side on weekends ( newnan, fayetteville, jonesboro)
but will PM you when i can get to your area
may not be as much help as others here , but will help where I can
read some older post as well. I have had questions that were already on the post

push comes to shove and you feel the need to have a mechanic look at it
Off Road Atlanta in the east point area
his name is Walter super friendly and super knowledgeable about jeeps

and yes it can be frustrating to you want to shave your head and join a cult .......advice....Mach 3
and there's no cult in our area that allows beer drinking and fraternizing with women......(I checked......twice)....

without passing the bar exam first or being elected to some government office or being a leader in some church ( no offense to any of those, that's whats in the news here)
but there again isn't this a cult in a way?( I already shaved my head );)
