Just as the title says. I found a 77 chief in Binghamton on CL. The CL ad had no pics so I called and the guy said that since the ad went up he had cancelled his internet and couldnt email pics. His son cam up with the idea to pull the pics up on the computer screen and snap a photo of the photo with the camera on his phone. I got him to take some pics of the fenders and the truck the next day with his phone.

I am very tempted to make a deal. He claims it is completely rust free and that the under carriage is so clean that even the springs look brand new. Also he says the interior has recently been done as well as a jasper engine rebuild. He admitted he isn't a jeep guy and a few years ago saw this for sale and got a wild hair to buy it because it was so nice. Him not being a jeep guy concerns me. All of us here have been neck deep in these things at one point or another and for someone who isn't as well versed as us a minute problem to him may be a huge problem for us.

If this is what he claims it would be a great cherokee. I just find it hard to imagine a 77 chief without some paint bubbling or surface rust somewhere. I am not trying to request anyone handle money for me but it would be nice if I could get a neutral set of eyes on it to hear it run and check it out for potential rust issues and kick some tires.

I'm a long way from Binghamton but from the photos this looks to be in excellent condition for thirty five years old. I'll bet it came from down south or out west somewhere.

I am just worried I am going to buy a plane ticket to go pick this up and when you get up close it runs like butt or has rot in the undercarriage or somehting. the condition he describes is too good to be true. I think i am going to take the risk and go this week to check it out

I wish I was still up there. I am originally from Horseheads, which is right down the road. I have been stationed at Bolling AFB for over twenty years now. I can't wait to get back up there. The salt up there should have destroyed that or at leased messed up the underneath. Sounds to go to be true but you have to take a chance on a diamond in the ruff.

I think i am going to risk it. Id think if the salt got to it we would be looking at major rust in the flares too.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I can get a direct flight from chicago to binghampton for 174 on thursday morning. that gives me a day and a half to drive it back for work on saturday. I checked for flights for tomorrow and they came up as 174 as well so I am thinking that it is a pretty fixed rate for that air route hopefully if it turns out to be misrepresented I can buy a ticket back to chicago for friday for around that same price.

15 hours in a 77 jeep is going to be pretty rough though. Anyone that might be able to provide some help in case of a break down between NY and Illinois?
