Factory original, probably. AMC used GM columns, as I recall.
Except for that silver bezel right under the steering wheel, yours looks just like mine, and mines original.

All the parts are available to completely rebuild what you have...it's not a hard job!
 
I'm 99.9% sure, that's the original AMC Jeep column.
You are correct, but the column is actually made by GM. Same parts as any 80s GM intermediate vehicle on the road.
 
Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware that they put a tilt-wheel in CJs. Learn something new every day.
