I just bought a 49 CJ3a the brakes are shot, but what about replacing the lines? Looks like the Kits are $AMC 150 or so..... A little steep for me right now.
If they dont leak, do they need to be flushed out? If so what do you use, or just more brake fluid?
1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
If they don't leak they should be good. Even if they do need to be replaced you should buy strait tubing and make your own brake lines with a flare kit like this:
The only issue it to make sure you get the right size fittings.
Stick with Glycol-based brake fluid. Don't get DOT 5. Its not worth it to clean out the DOT3 that's in there.
