That's a strong personal preference area, kinda depends on who you ask.
With that caveat out of the way. There are two schools of thought on mud tires. There are some who believe in skinny tires that dig down to hard surface, then there are those that believe in flotation. That being said, I've been running various "Super Swamper brand tires for 35 years & have been happy with them. The SSR radial is good on the street. I would avoid their "Thornbird tire" IMO it's junk. The "TSL", "Bogger", "LTB" all are great tires. In the old days "Goodyear" made a great flotation tire called the "Wrangler XT"you could put on a light Jeep run with the ATC's, but as far as I can tell they discontinued it for some reason.

I go with BFG radial TA all terrains every time. this is the best both world tire there is.
exceptional traction, excellent mileage and you can hear your self think on the street. and if you buy a et right now I think you can get a $70 rebate on them.
Like the man said its all personal preference but I truly believe this tire gives me the most bang for my buck.
and the look good.

IMO there is no tire that is good in the mud and on the street.
A good mud tire like a super swamper sucks on the street, and a good street tire like an all terrain will turn into a slick in the mud.
But if you want a comprimise I would have to say a bfg mud terrain or a mickey thompson mtz or something on that order.

Your best bet super swamper boggers for the mud, and a set of bfg A/t's for the street

I have buckshots on my truck, and a buddy has them on this jeep, they are on par with the old bfg m/t's for traction in the clay based mud around here.
I have around 35,000 mi. on them (hauling firewood and towing my jeep) and I'll be needing new ones come summer. They have been good tires for the price.

I've run 38.5" X 15.50 X 16.5 TSL radials & 38 X 15 SSR radials. The SSR's have a little tighter pattern & sipping on the center tread blocks neither is exactly a street tire, but the SSR is a better compromise.

I guess it depends on the driver & the rig, but on my rig I get 45,000+.

On my old rig I ran 38.5 X 15.50 X 16.5 10ply TSL radials on 16.5 X 9.75.

On my current rig I'm running 38 X 15 X 16.5 10ply SSR radials on 16.5 X12.

But the key is regular rotation or they'll wear out
quick and uneven.
I've heard good things about the KM2.

I'm currently looking ar the Super Swamper trxus MT for the wifes jeep.

Basically the same tread as a TSL just closer together, more like the BFG MT and my old favorite Bridgestone Dueler MT's.

Have to agree with Old Dog on the difference of mud tires and all terrains, I have the Dunlap Radial Mud Rovers on wifes TJ which do well in muddy spots and pretty good on rocks, But not the best for street driving. And in some spots down south you can get into some really sticky clay mud and you might as well be running racing slicks. There are some who swear by the BFG's KM2's and have seen first hand how well they work off road. Again it comes down to preference...
