Body lifts?

Id rather see trimmed sheet metal and Tj flares but if clearance is needed 1 in tops.

1" is fine. It gives a little clearance between the frame rail and body (which I find useful) and it won't affect the working of the clutch bell crank. Any more will.

1" works good, 3" looks pretty like :dung: on most rigs, unless you go with gap flaps.

I used a 1" Daystar body lift body mount. I have been pleased with it. Having 13" of lift before, my reason was clearance between body and Transmission -Transfer Case . Having the body lift combined seems stronger to me. In the past I was never enfavor of body lifts.

Thanks guys, I am thinking of just a 1" body lift to give me a little more frame to body clearance and driveline clearance.

Interesting. In what way do you mean stronger? Is it just the fact your old body mount bushings were worn out or something else?
Having the body lift combined seems stronger to me.

Because they short & one piece. I had a buddy with a 3' body lift on a CJ7 rolled backwards into a bolder. The impact bent the bolts & shifted the body over far enough it popped the clutch linkage.

Gotcha. What happened to your buddy is pretty much the reason no-one really wants to go over 1in.

Saw a jeep with a body lift rear end a car, the body lift bolts broke and the body smashed into the back of the engine.

Will the body lift mess with the length of your shifters? I have a Transfer Case drop kit on my CJ7 and the Transfer Case shifter is real close to the floor. Can't say i would want it any lower. I have been considering it because my valve covers tap the firewall slightly ever once in a while. I replaced the motor mounts and think this may fix it. Any thougths

Yes, the body lift will shorten the amount of shifter sticking up from the floor. More importantly, the shifter pivot point will be further below the floor which means the shifter may hit the edge of the cut out in the floor.

Why do you have a tranny drop with only a 2" lift?

The shifter length & pivot will change. Also the steering shaft length.

I bought it that way. I was looking at it yesterday and wondered if it needed to be on there. Wasn't sure. And it seems like this may be the cause of a slight knocking noise that appears to be coming from the valve cover tapping against the firewall on occasion. In theory, that could happen, correct? I may pull the drop kit off today and see what happens. Any advice?

I would definately pull the drop kit at only 2.5" of lift. And see what happens from there. Just watch your driveshaft angles and make sure they stay relatively the same(they should)

If you have a CJ7 and 2.5" of lift, you don't need a drop on the skid plate. I would put it back where it belongs.

Thank you Gents. I finished pulling it this morning and THE NOISE IS GONE!!!! My shifter is back to where it is supposed to be and I discovered that I do, indeed have 4L in the Transfer Case . I just previously could not move the shifter back far enough to engage it!!! Gotta love the PO's. No drive shaft vibrations so I think i am golden. There is now about an inch between the valve covers and the firewall too.

Sweet. Glad it worked out well for you. People do some funny stuff to Jeeps, you just never know what you're gonna find!

This made me  - not because of the problem you had, merely because of how you stated it! A perfect example of a poorly engineered execution of a body lift...
