Body lifts?

Body lifts?
Saw a jeep with a body lift rear end a car, the body lift bolts broke and the body smashed into the back of the engine.

Seen this happen many times my self
Absolutely HATE body lifts Personally

If you need space just modify what ever is in the way
( thats if you need to go over 1 in)

I bought a truck that was body lifted and the steering geometry was so screwed up it wasnt even funny

Thank you Gents. I finished pulling it this morning and THE NOISE IS GONE!!!! My shifter is back to where it is supposed to be and I discovered that I do, indeed have 4L in the Transfer Case . I just previously could not move the shifter back far enough to engage it!!! Gotta love the PO's. No drive shaft vibrations so I think i am golden. There is now about an inch between the valve covers and the firewall too.
:chug: Glad to hear it, that is way cool!!

I have a 1" body lift on my CJ5 , and the mounts are looking tired, where is a good place to get new ones? what is better rubber or neoprene? I think I want to use stainless bolts when I do swap out the old ones.
Chuck

[FONT=&quot]I prefer the daystar 1" neoprene myself ,I like the onepiece.

Where can you get just the bushings at? I have only seen the kits with the bolts.
Chuck

Stainless bolts are nice and I use a lot of them on my rigs where the looks count. However, using stainless for the body mount bolts isn't really a good idea unless you are also going to replace the nut end as well (difficult job in some places) The stainless with react with the steel nut and rust faster and jam. I would stay with the steel bolts for this application and use stainless where it's pretty.

I'm a huge fan on stainless bolts in the majority of applications, but for body mount bolts it's only grade 8 for me. While grade 5 may technically be acceptable I prefer having the knowledge that the bolts securing the two larges halves of my Jeep together are some of the strongest available.

Ok Guys, as far as the nuts go good call, I had not even thought about that, but as to the strength, one of my customers makes the stainless bolts and when I asked him for a strength comparison he said they come in several different grades but their good ones "make grade 8 bolts look like rubber bands" he does the testing in the lab. I make no claims to metallurgy but I know they have bolts that he has tested, and rated on the space shuttle. I will double check it with him to see if they are more brittle or anything like that, as they are free for me to get. Mostly I just REALLY hate rusted bolts, as they are offensive to me, shiny paint, shiny aluminum, shiny crome, RUSTY bolts, what do you notice when you look at something?
I will post what bolts they are when I check back with my buddy as to the rating, strength, brittle, etc...

That's good to know (for you). Unfortunately most people don't have access to hardness tester or someone who does and because of that, I usually tell others to steer clear of SS bolts (for high stress applications) because the strength of the bolt can be difficult to ascertain. Sounds like you have a good supply of stainless...

Does this customer sell retail? ;)

Gotta be honest, any of my weather exposed grade 8 hardware is in just about perfect condition after more than 12 years. Between the hardness and the plating they get, their pretty impervious to the elements. Easier to find, and cost less. I try to use the stainless where apearance will be a factor or I know I may need to remove them from time to time. Overall, grade 8's for me.

MY buddies say I am jack of all trades, my really good buddies call me a jack@@s of all trades. In my civilian Job, I go to all kinds of different business and I talk to all my customer about what they do, I have learned how to run a mill, a wire EDM, sand casting, stamping, and all kinds of other stuff, it is the only perk about my civilian job that I REALLY like, well that and the large group of friends I have met through going to all my customers. and I get little perks like scrap alluminum, and steel, brass(I have a nice little cannon that I turned before I got deployed the last time) If you would like I will try to get a copy of the markings for stainless steel bolts.

~I have learned how to run a mill, a wire EDM~
That is my life... I spent all day doing some prototype work for Pratt & Wittney today on a 5 axis Ferrari mill and also cutting some carbide blanks on our Mits wire EDM... You weren't spying on me - were you?

For me it is for fun, at my buddy brad's shop it is a computer business by day in the front, and at night, well some nights, it is "drunk" construction, he has a mill, 2 lathes, drill press, and a couple of welders. instead of going out to the bars and spending allot of money, etc, etc... we hang out there and drink a couple of beers and well build :dung:, and fix other stuff.
Anyways back on topic, I am not sure if it was this string or the other lift one, but according to the owners manual, I have a stock height 1960 CJ5 , but with a 1" body lift, and non standard springs, I wonder if I need new springs. It has a Chevy 350 in it and I know the shock are SHOT, whew what a fun drive it was home after FINALLY getting it registered and plated today:drool:. Plenty of power and useless shocks, I will say that I was definately not speeding, and the curves went nice and slow too, but she is home, and the real fun begins.
I also figured out why there were no turn signals in it, it simply did not come with any to begin with, duh what was I thinking. I have a power steering conversion and the column in it now has the lever, aso I got a flasher and will be making my own turn signal circuit, and then some hazards will come later.

i have a 74 cj an the PO used hockey puck (:censored:) like 2 here 3 there its janky as all hell thats prolly why the clutch keeps popin off the push rod. Im glad i read this one no more than 1in for me in the rebuild.good info to know.
