MY 68 CJ5 ONLY HAS THREE MOUNTS ON THE FRAME RAILS. SHOULD I HAVE 4? I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY HOLES THAT WOULD SUGGEST ANY OTHER BODY MOUNTS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE!:chug: DRIVER'S SIDE REAR.

ALSO HAVE ALOT OF BOLT HOLES WHERE SOMEONE ATTEMPTED TO MOUNT STEP RAILS. WORRIED ABOUT FRAME STRENGTH THERE. SHOULD I BRASE IT WITH MEDAL PLATES, OR IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO FIX IT. OR SHOULD I JUST LEAVE IT ALONE.

My post is a little bit unclear I think. A little to many beer breaks in between working on my jeep! It is the body mount that would go underneath the driver's side seat, at the start of the rear left side wheel well. It's not there, and it appears that there never was one there. My Haynes manual doesn't tell me anything. It seems like not having one would be odd since the gas tank and the weight of the driver is right there.

I would not weld on the frame rails unless I had to the heat can cause more damage than the holes. I do think I would look closely at the holes for signs of stress cracks, what size are the holes??

They are from 3/8 in bolts used to mount step rails. The problem is that it looks like they've attempted to mount them multiple times, or they didn't measure properly. The holes are fairly close together, and its right by the spring hangers. I thought about using 3/16 inch square plates and bolting them back to some of the existing holes, where the the mounting plates to the step rails once were. I'll get I better pic loaded tonight when I get off work. What about the body mount? should I be looking to add another one? Didn't notice any cracks after taking a wire wheel to it. No real rust issues on this frame, I'm very excited about that.

Here is a better pic of the holes. It makes me nervous that there right by the spring hangers.
You might have to zoom in to see them all, sorry, picture quality is terrible!

If there is a place on the body for a mount, I'd just fab one up that would use the existing holes... :)

Have you looked under your tub for those areas in question? I would imagine that there is a lip under the tub, ajacent to the wheel well that has a hole in it for attachment to the top frame rail. My '71 is set-up that way, and I can't imagine that there were many tub mounting changes from 55-75 (66-71 if V-6 equipped). The underseat tank wouldn't interfere... Also, FWIW, your clutch pedal will be much farther forward than it is now when the tub goes back on, which wouldn't give the room for a traditional mount bolted to the outside frame rail. Those same holes are drilled in my frame, as well...

I would not loose sleep over those holes. I would like to know what that arm with the spring mounted to the frame rail is??

I do have a hole on the top of the frame rail on both sides about an inch forward of both rear shock perches. The body was mounted to both of those holes on the frame rail, I still have two body mount brackets on the right side, and only one on the left, (Where drivers floor board will sit) aside from those two holes on the top of the frame rail. I started cutting rust spots out about a year ago, and didn't take pics at the time. I'll never do that again without taking pics first!! As far as the holes/tube side steps: PO had just cut off the side step tubes, left the mounting brackets bolted to the frame. I took them off, because they were horribly rusted and I wanted to make sure the frame was okay. To answer the question about the lever/spring: I don't know the proper term for it, but the spring and lever on there is the clutch disengagement assembly? The chain type. Thanks for all your help! :chug:

I crawled around my jeep body, and found the following:
driver's side front body mount bracket-goes to d. side floor board
pass. side front body mount bracket-goes to pass. side floor board
pass. side rear body mount bracket-goes to inside tool compartment
2 holes on frame rails by rear shock perch- lip at wheel well
No sign of anything suggesting body mount directly under gas tank/driver's seat even though the tool compartment/pass. seat has body mount. PO had also replaced the metal under gas tank at some point.

Here's a pic of where I would think there should be another body mount! :bang: Thanks for all your help! :chug::chug:

I'm having trouble getting it to enlarge. I circled the area in orange, but if you can't get it to enlarge, look at the body mounts on the right, then on the left. Looks like I should have 1 more. The photo is in my gallery, but it won't let me load it.
Here's a link to the pic:http://www.jeep-cj.com/gallery/files/1/2/4/0/body_mountsmallpic_original.jpg
